This ammunition incorporates two new revolutionary Hornady Features: Flex Tip bullets that initiate consistent expansion while preventing clogging, and the InterLock band which locks the jacket and core together preventing separation and ensuring maximum weight retention. This bullet has proven terminal performance through ALL FBI test barriers every single time. The core on this revolutionary bullet is made of high-antimony lead alloy making it tough, delivering controlled expansion and loaded in nickel plated cases to help prevent corrosion.

use it in my FX 40. tried it in my SW Shield, but prefer the Hornady Critical Defense ammo for the smaller auto.

Fits my needs exceptionally well

I have been a gun owner, hunter, and competitive shooter since I was 9 years old (many years ago),but have focused on home and self defense more recently. After range testing six of the most popular brands of the JHP rounds available, I evaluated the specifications for the Hornady Critial Defense and Critial Duty and placed these two at the top of the list for performance. They both tested very well (100 rounds in each gun and with all magazines) without any malfunctions and no measurable decrease in accuracy at 10 meters or less, in both of my 40 S&W guns as well as my 9mm subcompact back up gun (used the 9mm +P). Since I spend a lot of time in my car I selected the Critial Duty that has better performance through glass and other barriers. Informal field tests on various materials have been consistant with the published specifications.

Hornady demonstrated this round for my department today along with 9mm, 9mm +P, 308, .223 etc. The rounds were fired through wall board, car glass, two layers of sheet metal, and plywood into calibrated ballistic gelatin. In all cases the barriers were defeated and 12-18" of penetration into the gelatin was achieved. All pistol calibers penetrated about the same. This loads works as advertised.

I use this round in my sig p229R, I fired a few rounds at a small empty propane cylinder,wow what a hard hitter.it went through both sides and left huge holes.I feel very confident carrying this as my self defense ammo and would trust my life to it.

Excellent round except ...

Excellent round except its a light shooter witch means the round is slow velocity and it had minimal expansion under .60 out of a Glock 23. The good part it expanded in perfect form through four layers of denim and water and penetrated to 16 inches.
