Fits in the back of Mauser bolt shroud and allows the use of a low-mounted scope. Rotates from "on" to "off" position in approximately 70 degrees. This is a remake of the famous "Buehler" style safety. Will likely require minor gunsmithing for proper function.

This safety does not lock the bolt when it is engaged ("safe" mode). I can open the bolt, and cause the Timney Buehler safety to cam off to "fire" mode with normal pressure applied to open the bolt. This does seem to be a good safety feature. I've contacted Timney about it. They said they would check with their engineers about this situation. Haven't heard back from them yet. I posted my observations on accuratereloadinng.com. It seems like there is a mixed response if it should indeed lock the bolt or not. I'm still looking at it-to see what may be causing the nin-locking bolt issue. I'm also waiting for a response from Timney (Is it a design issue or not? Is it a machining issue or not?).I rate this safety at this point as only fair, and maybe should be "poor" due to this issue. If it is a design issue, and cannot be made to lock the bolt, I will send it back, and officially call it "poor." If it is a glitch in the machining, or needs a slight modification on my end-resulting in the ability to lock the bolt in "safe", then I will bump it up to "good" (with comments for what was needed to lock the bolt-if possible). Right now, I'm not impressed, but it is early. Midway or Timney may be getting a returned Buehler safety very soon. We'll see.

This is a good quality item. I like the spring loading to eliminate rattling. I fitted this to a re-barreled VZ24 (25.06). I had to modify the cocking piece a bit due to the what appears to have been several refits over time. I may buy a new cocking piece and see how it fits, but I already re-parkerized the original part and it works well. Does not interfere in any way with a Leupold VariX3 on low rings.

Initially, I was concerned about the two piece design. However, the pieces are so seamlessly fitted, and the screw finely threaded, that once assembled, the feel is very solid. It dropped into my parkerized FN shroud and picked up and functioned with the cocking piece with no additional fitting. It also locks the bolt without a hint of coming off (which a Dayton safety I own does with little effort).

Installed this safety on a Yugo 24/47. Fitting was required on the shroud, cocking piece and forward end of the safety. After fitting it works well and looks good. It clears the scope nicely.

Absolutely the best low-swing safety out there for an old Mauser. I replaced a Dayton Traister style safety on my custom Mauser. This style is worlds better. No modifications were needed to my shroud or cocking piece. The safety has a small screen that is removed, and the shaft and front come apart. You then slip in the shaft, and replace the front and the screw. This essentially clamps it across the same ring that the original military safety used. Mine was just a tad stiff the first 2 or 3 times I engaged it but it smoothed right out.
