The Hornady Lock-N-Load Headspace Gage is a great tool for increasing the accuracy of your loaded ammunition. The Headspace gage measures from the case-head to the datum line on the case shoulder to allow proper brass resizing for a precise fit with the rifle chamber. Bushings fit the comparator body and attach to calipers with a thumb screw. Can be used with bottleneck cases from 17 caliber through large belted magnums.

B-2000 Gage, Allen wrench and set of five bushings
Notes:

All bushing are interchangeable.

This tool is great for setting up sizing dies/head space; you'll form brass that actually fits your chamber without excessive working of the brass, resulting in better accuracy and longer brass life. Well worth the investment, and easy to use.

A must have for Service Rifles

If you have a service rifle, this is a must have accessory. Without a way to check the headspace, you are guessing the sizing is correct. Since the service rifles bolts don't have the camming power of a bolt action gun like the Remington 700, if your headspace is too tight, the bolt may not close completely which may result in an out of battery fire. This tool lets me check my fired brass to see what my headspace is, then set my sizing die to .002 or .003 below that ensuring he bolt has enough space to close completely. I use this whenever reloading for my M1A and M1 rifles, I couldn't reload without it!

This unit (although relatively expensive for a reloading accessory) is worth it's weight in gold if you are loading for bottleneck cartridges. Eliminates the "guesswork" when setting up sizing dies for correct headspace on a particular firearm. All manufacturers of dies, shellholders, and presses have tolerances in their machining operations. This tool allows you to compensate for those tolerances and assemble safe, more accurate reloads for whatever you are shooting, while extending the life of the brass case. Easy to use, well made with good instructions. A must have item if you are new to reloading, or unsure of the correct procedure of setting up your sizing die. Hornady should include this with their press package kits, and hopefully the other manufacturers would follow suit with a model of their own.

I couldn't imagine ...

I couldn't imagine reloading for a specific rifle without this tool. Once you have some fire formed brass, measure it and set your die to ensure the shoulder on future reloads are just barely (.002") shorter than your fire formed brass.

This device is simple to use, durable, seems to be very well made with quality materials and accurate machining. A must for any hand-loader of semi-auto rifles. One needs a good vernier caliper.Has increased the consistency of my group sizes.I would recommend this kit to anyone that hand loads.

Without this tool you are ...

Without this tool you are basically reloading blind folded. I originally bought this tool after I experienced a case head separation after just two firings on a .308 with a match chamber. Being that my rifle is a semi-auto FAL, I first thought that it was the violent extraction of the brass that caused this. So when I got home I put a sized brass case next to my fire formed case and I could visually see the shoulder being set back a lot more than it should be even though I was setting the die per manufacturers instructions. It turns out that by oversizing the brass I was causing and exessive headspace condition that greatly reduced the life of that lot of brass. So after I bought this tool, I was able to set the shoulder back just .002 and my groups shrank from around one inch to a consitent .75 or better using 5 and 10 shot groups. Trust me, without this tool or one similar there is just no way to accurately reload. After the first use the extreme spread on my loads dropped from 15-25 fps to 8-12fps which was incredible.

Just bought based on "review" in Zediker's reloading book saying the Stoney Point Headspace Gauge was "the best." That tool is no longer available but, apparently, this is the same tool under a different name.
