Made from polished and heat-treated steel, the RCBS Carbide 3-Die Set has a Sizer Die with Decapping Unit, Expander Die for expanding and belling the case mouth and a Seater Die for seating and crimping the bullet (Straight wall cases will roll crimp, unless the description indicates it has a taper crimp). I have an older 3 die RCBS 357 Mag die set. It does not have the carbide sizer, but I wish it did, as it would make lubing cases less of a problem. What I really like about the RCBS dies are the the different bullet seating stems one can use. In addition one can get a wadcutter bullet seater. Specifically, this allows me to use all kinds of different bullets and even very soft cast lead and have precise control over the bullet seating process. For a revolver cartridge, I like RCBS dies. What I don't like about RCBC dies is having to order a shell holder separately and that one can bend/break the depriming pins. When I bought my set used, the depriming pin was bent and I installed a new one. No big deals but little hassles that just occasionally come up once in a blue moon.

RCBS is good quality, but not the best. I've had one problem, but it was solved quickly. Customer support from RCBS is SUPER!! I stripped the "set screw" on my die lock ring, after e-mailing them they sent me a pack of 6 to replace it with.

After using these dies for several months I'm giving up and shelving them. For one thing the decapping die is a disaster; mainly because the decapping pin gets bent or broken pretty routinely since the adjustment nut goes loose with pretty much every use. Even when the adjustment nut is waaay tight I can still wobble the decapping pin assembly in the die body. The expander die blows out the case body as well as the case mouth, frequently leaving a measurable, bulging, ring in the case about 1/3 down its length. The seating dies passes muster -- just barely -- by giving consistent seating depths and marginally acceptable roll-crimps. In short, though, I've had it with RCBS. My Hornady dies are a dream to use in comparison to these and a new set of Hornady dies will be replacing my RCBS dies in the next few minutes.

I'm sure I would give this die set a better rating if I had been able to use it. My die set arrived from Midway missing the bullet seating plugs and lock nut. I called Midway support and was told that I could either call RCBS and request the missing parts or return the set to Midway for replacement. They said Midway could not send me the missing parts. I thought it would be quicker to call RCBS and they told me they would send the parts. The parts never came so I returned the die set to Midway for a refund and bought another die set locally. Now I not too impressed with customer service at either Midway or RCBS.

I started with the steel dies years ago when carbide was high dollar. Now that they are affordable, ALL OF MY PISTOL DIES are RCBS Carbide dies. The difference is amazing. This set includes a ring that aproxamates the difference in length for .357 magnum. Just set your dies for .38SPL and put the ring on for .357. That means one set of dies for both calibers. You can expect your grandchildren to use these dies.

I use all RCBS equipment and these dies are great. No lube and easy set up and the customer service is great. As far as the gentleman who said that he could not get them to chamber probably not setting them up right. If you happen to have a tight chamber all you have to do is send some fired cases to RCBS along with your die and they will adjust your die at no charge!!!! How many companies these days will do this for you at no charge? Great company!!!

Purchased this instead of my usual Dillon dies because I don't reload .38 sp much and wanted to save money. I should have spent the extra cash. I have the following quips. 1) resizing die does not resize very far down on the case and causes problems when you use a case not fired in the gun your reloading for. Since I pick up range brass this is bad. 2) crimps and seats bullet in one stage. This is kind of a pain to adjust. 3) Probably due to the crimp / seat in one step it does a poor job aligning the bullet for seating. This necessitates a pretty hefty case expansion which works the case excessively. The die also crimps poorly. For some reason it really shaves the edges of the case its crimping. Little shavings of brass everywhere. I expect over successive firings this shaving will lead to unreliable crimp as well. Normally I might not worry but sense I expanded the heck out of the case to seat the bullet I don't expect there will be much neck tension to hold the bullet. Bottom line, there just not very good dies. I'll probably sell mine and get some Dillon's. I tried to skimp and now I get to cry twice.
