Product Information

Safety considerations require rifles equipped with tubular magazines to be loaded with flat nosed bullets only. This ensures that the cartridges will not ignite one another. While safe, these bullets travel only at moderate velocities. To address this, Sierra has added a series of features to promote reliable expansion. Two of the bullets offer a hollow point design in which a large frontal cavity promotes rapid expansion on impact. In the 30-30 and 375 Winchester bullets, Sierra offers a Power Jacket which features a series of "skives" cut into the mouth of the jacket which allow for greater expansion at lower velocities.

The traditional, flat base design of the Pro-Hunter has been skillfully blended with Sierra's world-famous accuracy. The custom-tapered Pro-Hunter jacket design helps assure maximum expansion, optimum weight retention and deep penetration for game-stopping, 1-shot performance. This is not loaded ammunition.

I have been using the Sierra 125 gr. HP/FN for the past 3 deer seasons out of my Marlin 336 and I cannot say enough about how it has changed the perception of the effectiveness of the .30-30 on myself and others. This bullet has unsurpassed (in the .30-30) expansion while retaining suprising penetration abilities. My worst case scenario with the bullet; broadside downhill 40 yd shot on a doe, I hit a little higher than I wanted, she took seven (7) bounds, still within eyesight in thick woods and keeled over, the bullet hit the upper lung area but still killed within 40 yards! Best case scenario; a button buck trotting towards me at 55 yards gave me only a quartering-on shot, the bullet smashed through the front left shoulder, split the trachea, destroyed the heart and the right lung before one tiny piece of the bullet managed to slip between the ribs on the right side, he dropped so hard without any movement I thought I had hit him in the head or neck! This bullet propelled by Reloader-7 puts a whole new paint job on the ol' thutty-thutty!

This bullet when crimped at the cannelure, is too short to function reliably in a pre-64 Mod. 94. Otherwise, it is exceptionally accurate.

The Sierra 125gr Hp/fn is the best bullet suited for the 30/30. Better terminal performance then any 150 or170 grainer on the market. Especially for the Little SE Texas Deer. My favorite load is IMR-3031.I also have recommended this load to family & friends who was very Impressed with shooting a lighter bullet in a 30/30. To quote son in law "I have never seen this kind of devastation from a heavy 30/30 bullet."

A friend asked me to research some light 308 loads so his children could shoot his model 700. I ran across " The Load " by C E Harris and put this bullet over Red Dot. I shot it in my 15" 308 Encore and could cover 50 yd groups with a dime, 100 yd groups about 1 1/2 inches. They would have been tighter if I could hold the pistol steadier. I'll be buying and loading more of these. Looking forward to trying out one on a whitetail.

SWEET 30-30 Pet Load for Deer! I have been a handloader for over 35 years and have found no better bullet for Whitetail Deer in a Marlin 336, 30-30. Even though I thought these bullets would be too light for Whitetails I rushed out and bought a box to load up for accuracy testing. Though I don't remember exactly what the groups were the next trip to the range proved the accuracy to be far superior to what I had been shooting through that gun, and the recoil was sweetly mild. Over the next few weeks I tried several other powders and loads, all of which worked well with that bullet, but none out performed the IMR 4320. I was still skeptical of the small bullet on deer but quickly overcame that thought when I saw its performance that fall. After all of these years, I still have those partial boxes of unloaded 150 and 170 grain bullets. I HAVE NEVER LOADED ANYTHING ELSE FOR USE IN MY MARLIN SINCE THAT TIME!" These bullets perform equally well at 10 yards or at 200+ yards. Many times the bullet is just under the skin on the far side. My son killed a large whitetail Doe, 5 years ago, at about 80 yards and the recovered bullet retained 91% (114 Grains & a perfect mushroom) of its original weight. Three generations of my family have killed deer with that loading in that gun.

Found a great load for this bullet in my new 336SS. It will shoot 1 1/2" groups out at 100 yds. 35 gr of Reloader 15 does the trick. Hope to be able to brag about some downed white tail this fall.

I loaded some of these w/just over starting load of IMR4064 for a youth load. Est. 2150fps. Very impressive w/ the lighter velocity on a doe at 85yds. Great wound channel. If you're using a lever-action, highly recommend these. Plan on getting some Ramshot TAC and try to work up to the 2600fps load they have.

I have been using this bullet in my Marlin 336 rifle for the past 8 years. I have not hit a deer yet that didn't go down. The knock down power is outstanding. I use 34.6 gr. of IMR 3031 which gives me real good knock down power. Try it, you will love it!

This bullet is amazing. I started loading these for my sons to use in a model 94 angle eject 30-30. I seated these over some Hodgdon Varget and Im getting better than 2300 fps with low recoil. The kids are older now but still love to use this combo. Accuracy out of the lever action was better than expected with average of around 1 inch at 100 yards. I feel that thats good with a lever gun. This bullet and load is good knock down, good on accuracy, and easy on recoil. Theres not much else to ask for .

Bought these bullets to create an alternate to the more expensive Hornady Lever/evolution 30-30 Win. rounds (which shot very well in a 336W). With a little adjustment of Reloader 7 loads we were able to produce repeatable sub 3" 6-round groups at 300 meters with a newer Marlin 336W equipped with a 36X scope. Though not a tack driver, this is great from a lever rifle. Two new Winchester 94AE's with the same scope produced from 7" to 8" groups under the same conditions. This bullet is very wind sensitive at long range at wind speeds above 5mph. Attention to wind drift is a must! In real hunting conditions with a good 3-12x scope on the 336W, this bullet hammered coyotes out to 315 yards and should do well with lung shots on deer if limited to 300 yards. Best results were obtained with the bullet seated as shallow as possible with a solid crimp using Lee collet sizer and crimp dies. All loads were checked for concentric bullets as the long necks of the 30-30 are easy to load out-of-round with this short bullet. This bullet also shot extremely well in a Russian SKS.
