The Adams Arms gas piston conversion is a complete retrofitting kit that brings a standard AR-15 rifle into the 21st century by replacing its dirty direct gas impingement operating system with a cooler, cleaner, short-stroke gas piston design. With the piston conversion installed, hot combustion gases are kept out of the upper receiver and vented forward, resulting in a gun that remains cleaner and cooler during operation for increased reliability and decreased maintenance.

The gas piston kit installs easily, requiring no permanent alterations to the rifle, and adds virtually no additional weight to the gun. The kit comes complete with a replacement gas block (with integral single Picatinny top rail), piston and piston return spring, operating rod, solid steel one piece replacement bolt carrier , handguard cap, properly relieved M-4 style handguards, installation hardware and complete instructions. The low profile of the Adams Arms piston design makes it compatible with some free-floating handguards, however removal of some material from the upper portion of the free-float handguard may be required for use with this operating system.

The one piece bolt carrier features an integrally machined, solid steel strike face to absorb the operating rod's energy, as opposed to the modified bolt carrier key provided with the kit that uses the traditional screw attachment method to retrofit a standard AR-15 bolt carrier.

An outstanding product! I ...

An outstanding product! I set this up with a 6.8 SPC barrel and did the break-in shoot with Hornandy 110g HP-BT rounds. Every round cycled flawlessly. 3" groups at 100yd.

Bought this close to 6 or 7 months ago. I love this system. Feeds and functions cooler and cleaner because it uses the minimal gas amount to push the bolt back, the rest goes out of the front gas block. Much easier to maintain compared to the factory Gas Impingement system. Adams arms did a great job. Very easy to install with the proper tools. Never any regrets buying the cleaner and smarter solution: the Adams Arms Piston conversion.

Absolutely awesome. I had ...

Absolutely awesome. I had a gunsmith put this on since I didn't want to mess anything up. If I had the tools, I probably could've done it myself, seems pretty easy. This system runs flawless. I am very impressed and will eventually convert all of my AR's to this system. I highly recommend this product.

Fit finish and function ...

Fit finish and function were simply outstanding. This unit was installed on an 18 inch white oaks barrel with an A3 upper. This unit cycles perfectly with all standard ammo, to include some pretty rough reloads. I also noticed no difference at all in the accuracy of the rifle with or without the piston kit on it, so you can shelve that rumor. The chamber and upper stay remarkably clean. Disassembly of the piston for cleaning was easy and quick. The only thing I didn't care for was the slightly oversized plastic handguards, so we modified an aluminum free float tube (also from Midway) to allow the piston to run freely. This worked great, now I have a nice slim forearm, and many places to place lights, lasers, etc.I was a little leery about buying this unit sight unseen, but am fully satisfied with it. Once you shoot a piston gun, you won't want to go back scrubbing all the carbon out of your bolt, bolt carrier, etc....
