This handy vise is perfect for all gunsmiths. Multiple places for adjustment make this vise a go-to when something needs to be held just right. This vice features an automatic rotation lock as jaws are tightened as well as the ability to turn the vise head 90 degrees. Optional tilting jaws are available to hold tapered material (product number 710163). Vise swivels 360 degrees on its base. The jaws measure 3-1/2" wide x 2-1/8" high and open to 5". Cast iron and steel construction with three holes in the base for mounting to a bench.

I ordered this vise from Midway two years ago. At the time of the order the vise was listed with a different name, I believe it was called the Versa Vise at that time. I use this vise daily and couldn't be happier with it. I like the fact that I am able to swivel the vise by simply loosening the jaws a slight amount. With the adjustment screw set properly it takes very little pressure to lock the vise in one position, which makes it very versatile when working on small parts. I used two sided carpet tape to secure heavy leather pads to the jaws to prevent damage to the parts held in the vise. Needless to say, I love this vise. This vise, along with my heavy duty bench vise covers every need I have for my work. As stated below, this is a Gunsmith vise and as such is very well made. I'm sure it will last me a lifetime. I highly recommend this vise to anyone needing a vise of this nature. Excellent vise and excellent value!! Thank you Midway.

A very reasonably priced ...

A very reasonably priced copy of a domestic vise. Although reverse engineered in CHINA it does the job adequately. Note ! The jaws are never lined up and are not parallel to each other with the locking system that is used. There is usually an 1/8" gap on the bottom of the jaws when the top edge touches. The locking screw needs to be longer and capable of hand tightening without a wrench. As it is it will just gall and drag on the vise extension unless it is totally loosened off the pedestal with each tightening. Still not bad for the price.

I looked quite carefully at the available vises and their value to price. Nowhere else did I find a comparable vise for anywhere near the same cost. The quality of the vise is also quite good. The fit and finish of the moveable parts is a bit stiff but will work out in a short time. I like the tilting jaws for holding tapered items but I do wish they sold a set with a thicker padding. All in all, a VERY good product for a very fair price.

At first mine was great. But over time it started to fall apart. Soft metal, bits of the jaws started breaking off. Now it won't hold anything small. In my opinion, it's just junk. I am very disappionted. I thought Midway had quality stuff, but they missed the mark on this one.

The threads stripped out ...

The threads stripped out of the nut that the lead screw uses to apply pressure. You can see the nut in the picture - it is the shiny rod end that shows in mid body. It was almost impossible to take it apart but eventually I was able to make a replacement nut and lead screw (the original was metric). Do not buy this unless you own a lathe so you can repair it yourself. The quality is no better than awful.

Box label indicated the vice is made in China. I was concerned as other tools I've bought that were made in China were of marginal to poor quality. This is actually an excellent table top vice. Easy to adjust and very stable. Would recommend this to anyone looking for a good vice.

This vise gets the job done and is relatively sturdy, but the jaws were not completely parallel and I had to shim my action block to get a tight grip. For the amateur gunsmith on a budget, this isn't such a bad option.

I purchased this vise a couple years ago and have used it somewhat regularly. I was using it to hold a barrel recently and when tightening one of the jaws completely cracked around the screw mechanism. Up until that point it had worked fine for what it was but the complete failure of the metal was unsat for me.
