8 pumps yeilds 636.2 fps ...

8 pumps yeilds 636.2 fps avg muzzle velocity using 14.3 gr. Daisy Pointed Field Pellets. Chronograph was set up 10' from muzzle. After shooting the rifle 30 times, the pumping gets easier. For max velocity, do not pump more than 8 times. The power drops off with more pumps.The trigger is rough and heavy out of the box. The open sights are adjustable for windage and elevation, but are barely adequate. Most shooters looking for accuracy add the Williams peep sight or the B-Square (product number 335740)scope base to get the rifle to perform at it's best. With a trigger job and an airgun scope the gun is very accurate. Groups under .5 inch are the norm at 30 yds with the above pellet. Two pellets through the same hole are not uncommon.The rifle is well built and should last a life-time with proper care. If it weren't for the rough and heavy trigger, and poor open sights, I would have given the rifle 5 stars.

Get the .177 caliber.- it ...

Get the .177 caliber.- it has a flatter trajectory and their pellet mushrooms quicker / flatter. The .22 drops like a rock and a .22 rifle short is more quiet and lethal.

I have had this rifle for ten years and it has been through many tough conditions such as: been dropped in several creeks, shot who knows how many times dropped on concrete. This is the best rifle I have every had!

First things to know ...

First things to know about this rifle: its loud, hard to cock, needs a scope, powerful, gorgeous and the product you receive does not look like the picture. This picture is an older model that does not look nearly as good as the newest model. If you want to see what you will get look at the 397. THAT in .22 is what you will receive. Very nice stock. Beautiful wood. Shoots around 640 fps with 14.3 grain pellets. That's almost 14 fpe which is what you get out of a remington vantage and more than the Gamo Big Cat. Sso this is a powerful little 36'' rifle in .22. 14 fpe will easily take out a squirrel, birds and even a mid-sized raccoon. The 8 pumps it takes to pump is VERY hard at first. Add some pellgunoil and after 300+ pumps it gets much easier. The last pump is 33 pounds of effort, of course that does not account for the other 7 pumps that are almost as hard. this gun, As I said, is loud. The sound is not short and quick its long and echoes. The fiber optic sights are awful, they are black on black and don't adjust very well. Get a scope. I do not recommend a rifle scope because in order to mount one of those you need even more pars to clamp it to the gun and gets in the way of the cool bolt action. Trigger requires 5.3 pounds of pull and is VERY unpredictable. Sometimes I pull the trigger and think I forgot to load it or something but in fact I just didn't pull all the way. The trigger either needs an upgrade from Benjamin or the shooter has to get used to it. Don't let its small looks and low velocity fool you. Its powerful and clearly meant for hunting. The short stock and rifled barrel make it very well balanced and easy to take into the field. In all honesty, the ONLY reason not to buy it is if you will only be using it for targets because it is not a great target gun, its ACCURATE out to 30 yards, BUT the cocking is too much to be using it all day for targets.

I have a model 397 bought ...

I have a model 397 bought back in the late 1980's and it's still working like new----Received the 392 today and noted the following----The pump handle that is advertised as with a swell for easier griping is acutally a reduction in the size of the first half of the pump handle to make the back half look bigger but is acually the same size as my old 1980 verzion----still has wood but doesn't compare to the 397 in weight or estetics----trigger guard is now narrower than rest of metal frame where before all was same size/thickness----end of compression tube is now plastic as is trigger and trigger guard----but the wood pump handle is about a half inch longer and a little thicker ------was also dry so start lubing joints and linkage----other than that is still a great classic gun, with same skinny sights and trigger surprise.

I have had this rifle for ...

I have had this rifle for 5 years now, and it has never failed to put a smile on my face every time I pull the trigger. The iron sights are pretty decent, I've gotten pretty good with them but I'm getting a 4x32mm Leapers scope soon, exellent power for the caliber. I havent seen a more powerful pump rifle at this caliber. Good plinker, mine rips open water filled soda cans at 20 yards with daisy precision max 14.2 grain pellets. I've never had a problem with the pumping. I'm 13 years old and if I can pump it, then you can too. Too many people complaining about it. I'm wondering how I'm going to pump it without damaging the scope though.

I have owned this air ...

I have owned this air rifle for 2 years, I think it is a great air rifle, I have an old weaver 4X scope a G4 .It will shoot 1/4- 1/2 groups at 30- 40 ft with crossman pointed pellets.I dont recommend a 1 inch scope for this gun as it sets the scope too high to get a good cheek to stock weld .I really like being able to vary the power by the number of pumps for targets or pests, and even small game. This is one gun you cannot go wrong with.

.22 Cal, and made in the ...

.22 Cal, and made in the USA, I would say the best pneumatic rifle made. It is extremely accurate, and packs a punch. I combined mine with the Gamo laser/light scope, RWS hollow point pellets, and love it. The only con is that this rifle can be extremely hard to pump to the full 8 pumps even for an adult. The other tip is please make sure that you clean the rifle before use, lots of brass came out of my barrel in my pre-flight.

A friend and I sighted in ...

A friend and I sighted in zero at 20 yds and were pleased to see about 1/2" groups. He hammered a collared dove at 71 yds holding about 20" over. Plenty of penetration even out there. Amazing shot. Good gun good fun.
