If you're new to ...

If you're new to reloading, heed my advice and purchase this die set. Do not ignore an experienced reloader's advice to get a seating die with a built-in micrometer. I had to learn the hard way and waste a bunch of money before I got this set. The micrometer adjustments make seating easy and reliable. The finish virtually eliminates rusting. Everyone carries RCBS (at least in Houston, TX) and it's very easy to get replacement parts such as decapping stem. The bullet window allows you to drop a bullet into the seating die easily and ensures proper alignment to begin seating. I've reloaded about 300 rounds of .308 and this die has improved my groups tremendously from 2 MOA to 1.1 MOA. That's not great, but I think it is due to the fact that I use a Lee turret press. Here's another advice: ONLY USE SINGLE STAGE presses if accuracy is your game. I am learning this the hard way too.

After setting up the sizing die according to the directions I am having a lot of trouble with headspace. Only about 2 out of 10 will actually fit in the chamber of my Remington 700 LTR. I am having to push each cartridge into the sizing die 4-5 times before it will fit in my chamber. During this operation on the fourth time I attempted to size a round it got stuck in the die. I just sent it in to RCBS and I'm about to find out about the customer service. I ordered and received the Redding 308 dies for comparison. I liked the fact the Redding dies came with a full length and neck sizing die along with the seating die. I set up the full length Redding sizing die and discovered it only needed one try to make the cartridge cases fit into my Remington 700 chamber.

I have been using these dies for about 2 years. I especially like the seating die because I don't get my fingers caught placing a bullet into a case as I raise the ram. Yes, with the extended shell holder it must be used in a single stage press. Yes, you MUST measure the fired cases, and then match them with the sizing die adjustments minus .002". This only needs to be done once, to set the sizing die. The brass does not get over worked. I am up to 10 reloads on my batch of brass. This can be done easily with a RCBS precision mic set (caliber specific). I trim the bullet tips (Sierra 168 g HPBT) which keeps the COL the same.This is for a .308 in a AR10. I have 2 sets of dies, one for the AR10, the other for my bolt actions. If you are shooting a AR10, I highly recommend a RCBS taper crimp die. They work great. Must trim the brass all the same length.The results are 10 round groups at 100 yards, 5/8" and alot of 1/2" groups if I do my job. Heavy barrel, 24".

This is a very good ...

This is a very good sizing die, but it is only for semi-auto weapons. I've been using this die to size Lake City brass for my AR-10 since it first went on sale to the public. I've had no problems with this die, except for once in a while when I let my case lube pad get too dry and resulting in a stuck case. As with most carbide dies for bottleneck cases, it does require lube, and is so stated in the directions. Case and cartridge run out for every case that I've sized with this die has been zero. Even cases that I've sized in other dies that had a run out of .001" to .003 have had a zero run out with this die. The only problem that I had, before I started marking which ammo is for my bolt action and which is for my AR-10, was that cases sized with this die can sometimes be difficult to get properly seated in the chamber of my bolt gun.

Very nice dies, I have the competition dies for 308, 223 and will be getting 7mm mag...Much easier on the brass than normal dies for resizing.... Reloading window and micrometer adjustment are great and get you hooked....

Broke the decapping pin in the first 300 rounds. The seating die is great. Once you use the little window in the seating die, you'll be hooked.

I have this die set in ...

I have this die set in two calibers, .30-06 & .308. They are good dies, but the .308 seating die does not work well in the Forster Co-Axial as it requires the extended shell holder.

Great dies. Not sure ...

Great dies. Not sure where the seater makes contact with the bullet, but guessing that it's near the tip of the bullet. I have been using it for 175gr Sierra HPBT MKs and find that measuring with a 30 cal comparator (to ogive), the lengths vary by about .003"..but COL to tip of bullet is quite consistent. That may be due to bullet variations. The seater die doesn't click...so technically, you can adjust it to even less than .001" differences!Nice dies.

Die set was easy to set up and adjust. I have .004 runout but have not blamed that on seating die yet . Would like to see the mic marks be done in white for easier visibility .
