The traditional, flat base design of the Pro-Hunter has been skillfully blended with Sierra's world-famous accuracy. The custom-tapered Pro-Hunter jacket design helps assure maximum expansion, optimum weight retention and deep penetration for game-stopping, 1-shot performance. The 6.5mm 120 Grain Pro-Hunter is an extremely accurate bullet that is best suited for smaller capacity 6.5mm cartridges. It will perform well on medium game at long ranges out of higher capacity cartridges such as the 264 Winchester Magnum and 6.5-284, but will be too frangible at close ranges out of these calibers. This is not loaded ammunition.

Only bullet I hunt deer. Never had a deer run more than 30 yards, most drop. This bullet shoots 1/2" groups at 100 yards with the out-of-box barrel. The load is in Sierra Reloading book. Whitetails are pretty frail...they are not Cape Buffalo. All you need is shot placement and a bullet you trust to stay on course. This bullet shoots as well as Sierra's match bullets. Dropped a large whitetail with this bullet at 350 yards last evening at dusk. Quartering away shot at that. Point of impact was exactly where aimed. I'd never take a shot like that with a factory load! The 140 gr and above bullets/factory loads are very difficult to stabilize with a factory barrel twist in 6.5 mm. This is the bullet that makes the REM 260 my favorite whitetail round.

I think this bullet is an excellent bullet for shooting coyotes as it is very accurate. It is not as strongly constructed as is needed for deer. I'm shooting this bullet in a 6.5x55 Swiss Mauser at about 2850 fps muzzle velocity and it will not exit behind the shoulder hit deer at 50 yds. One deer was a Doe of about 80 lbs and another was a Buck of 140 lbs. Neither bullet exited and very small pieces of lead and brass was all I found. I will not be Deer hunting with this bullet again.

I load these bullets @ 2800 fps in a model 7 in 260 rem for my son. He has taken 4 whitetail from 30yds to 175yds. All bullets exited, but did a lot of tissue damage with rather large exit wounds. Groups are well under 1 MOA. This is a good bullet for whitetails, even really big whitetail (200 llbs plus).

I recently tried the 120 grain Sierra spitzer. Only gave 4 stars, because I have not had the chance to try it on game. But wow! What a job it did at the range. I loaded it on top of a moderate charge of Re 19 at approx 2700 fps and the very first load sent the first 3 shots into a cluster about .30 caliber and the last two shots opened up the group to about .6 inch! Like I said this was the first load through my handmade 6.5x55 Swede and should be a natural performer on deer and the like. I will report back soon with a field report.

I wrote in before about this bullet's accuracy. In short it is incredible. Now for a field report. Two whitetails both very dead within seconds of the shot. both ran about 50 yards, incredibly without their heart as it was totally destroyed. The shots were at 113 and 160 yards respectively. Both quartering shots breaking one shoulder either on impact or exit. The internal damage with this bullet is massive but both bullets still managed to exit. I am shooting this load at a rather modest velocity of 2700 fps which is easy on the brass, easy on the shoulder and easy on the pocket book. I would not load this bullet at high velocity or shoot at animals close range as it may get a little explosive on impact.

Used this bullet for many years in Atkinson 20" barreled 6.5mm x 308 Sako. Very accurate. Shot many mule deer, antelope & coyote. Always exited. Always one shot kills. Explosive expansion under 100 yards. Performs great to over 300 yds. My favorite!

Excellent penetration as well as expansion. I shoot this bullet at 3300 fps out of my 264 win mag. 3 shots touching @ 200 yds.

I load these in my Ruger M77 and M96 Mauser 6.5 X 55 for whitetail deer. 2 years ago I took a nice 8 point buck at 125 yards. The bullet did exit the animal and did considerable damage to the lungs. He ran about 30 yards and dropped.

Have hand loaded this bullet for a .260 Remington and found that it is accurate at the range (1 inch groups or less). IMR 4350 powder produced the best results. However, I have not had a chance to use the bullets on game yet. The Nosler 120 grain ballistic tips provided better accuracy with IMR 4064 powder, however, tissue damage to game with these bullets is extensive. The Sierra bullets are what I will use for black tail deer.
