Night sights with tritium lamps are too fragile for installation methods like hammers and punches. Maryland Gun Works designed their sight tools specifically for but not limited to night sights. Beware of imitators, some designs are made to attempt to work on many different models but these individual tools are much better suited for their specific task.

Makes installing sights a pleasure with no need for any hammers. If any one of the sights are resistant to movement, tighten up and then release the pressure and then repeat this again and it will start to move after a few attempts. Very nicely made and very heavy duty....

This tool and a touch of Kroil did the job! Removing the factory front sight on my XDM was still a bit of a wrestling match. To get the ideal leverage, I considered but did not try to clamp the tool in a bench vise. Didn't have to. In contrast, the factory rear sight put up no fight at all. The only instructions that come with the MGW tool are printed clearly on the tool: apply oil on both the threaded and un-threaded portions of the main shaft. I did - it's good advice.

MGW sight tool is a great ...

MGW sight tool is a great solid product. Used it to align the Trijicon night sights on my XD 4" pistol. This tool will not remove the factory sights, I had to use a punch and a big hammer. Will be doing my XDM next.

Used this to remove the stock rear sight on my XD-45 Tactical. There is a warning on the tool that says it isn't made to remove extremely tight factory rear sights. I overcame that using a 5 lb. hammer on the twist handle. Took about an hour with taking an occasional break. You can't use it for the front sight on the Tactical model. It appears it will be fine for a Service model or smaller. It did a great job of pushing on the rear Meprolite sight on my 45 Tactical. That part was easy. If all you have is an XD Tactical model you can save money by having a gunsmith install for you and forego the do-it-yourself frustration. I do have a Service model too so will report on that install event when I buy some night sights for it.

This tool is a must if installing or removing night sights or TFO sights! A big, solid hunk of metal! Very strong! You can really crank on this thing. I broke 2 other tools trying to change the sights on my XD 45. This tool pushed them right out with no problem. A few drops of Kroil and out they came. Very happy with it. The only bad thing is it's for the XD ONLY! Will not fit the M&P or any other gun. XD PISTOLS ONLY. Used it once, now it's collecting dust.
