Product Information

This specialized 1/4" wide hunting trigger is adjustable for weight of pull, sear engagement and overtravel. Pull weight is adjustable from 1-1/2 to 3 lb. The body is steel, all moving parts are heat-treated and sear surfaces are ground and polished. Fits Remington Model 700 and 40X actions, as well as rear-grip XP-100 silhouette handguns. Fits right hand actions only. Requires fitting and installation by a qualified gunsmith.

Fits:

All Rem 700 and 40X rifles and XP-100 rear trigger conversions.

Note: This trigger does not come with a safety. You must use the safety from your original Rem 700 trigger. If you have the X-Mark Pro, you must purchase a safety kit and bolt action release.

I have had this trigger mounted in a Rem. 700 in .308 for about 6 months now. I liked the original trigger in the 700 since I was used to using an old Enfield #4 mk 2 (horrible 2 stage trigger by comparison), but I also like to tinker with things. The installation went flawlessly except for some trouble getting the factory safety to stay on, but I think that I was as much at fault as the retaining clip. I finally had to use a nail punch and some gentle perpendicular tapping to get the whole thing solid. As far as the performance of the trigger... I could not be happier. At the weight it was received it has turned a very accurate rifle into a "Can't miss machine". There is no creep or noticeable overtravel, and the release is startling. I have yet to fire a shot that doesn't surprise me, which means that I don't miss because the rifle has done it's work by the time I have reacted to the shot. I have never shot a Jewell or Timney trigger, but I cannot imagine that they are that much, if ANY better, especially when you start looking at the prices involved.

I ordered the item in Dec 2011. Trigger installation was not too hard. Trigger broke at 1 3/4 lbs per trigger pull gage. It felt great. Then I went to shoot the rifle. After 15 rounds the trigger pull was notably heavier. I checked it with my gage and it was 6 lbs. I checked the screws and none had moved. I then flushed the trigger with lighter fluid and let it dry. The trigger pull was lighter, but above the initial 1 3/4 lbs. Within 10 more pulls it was very hard to pull again. I removed it from the stock. I double checked the bedding of the action to the stock and the floorplate to the stock. No issues with either. I verified the sear was not binding. I also verified that the sear spring was not cocked or bent. I contacted Shilen. I spoke to Dave. He was very nice and cordial, but the only thing he suggested was to try to adjust the trigger pull. He stated to send it back to them and they would look at it. To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I am having to use a backup rifle for my hunt. I am exchanging this item for another try with Shilen. If I have issues with it, I will try a different brand. I would have given it a one star if Dave at Shilen had not been good to deal with on the phone.

Replaced Factory Defective Trigger

I bought a Remington 700 300 win mag in 1985. It was only after the MSNBC special on the Reminton 700 defective trigger that I had a near miss at the gun range. While the rifle was in a Caldwell Lead sled loaded with 50 lbs of lead pointing down range I loaded a reload with 180 Hornady SST. As I closed the bolt with the safety off the rifle fired much to my shock. My left hand was on the forearm. NOthing was inside the trigger guard! The Shilen Trigger replaced the factory defective trigger perfectly. No creep no over travel just clean crisp release at 1.5 lbs Outstanding product!

I installed this on a 1980 manufactured Remington Mdl. 700 BDL. Installation wasn't to complicated but harder than the Ruger or Mauser.Shilen states that the trigger is ajustable from 1 1/2 to 3 pound pull weight. Not so, I turned the brass screw for pull weight all the way in and it breaks clean at 8 onces. Nice for bulleye shooting but now I consider it to dangerous for hunting with.

Excellent trigger! 1.5 LBS pull no creep. For the review that stated that it would not work on rem tac models 2009 and newer that is not true..you need to read. If you have the X-Mark Pro, you must purchase a safety kit and bolt action release. Which is exactly what I did for mine and I had no issues.

The one I got in Dec. '11 had way too much creep. From what I've read, getting creep out of these triggers is mixed. Because of this I did not try adjusting the sear engagement and sent it back for an exchange of brands. Based on the overwhelming number of good reviews of these triggers, I was really surprised it had as much creep as it did.

I have had this trigger on a custom 300 win mag for 3 years and it has been perfect since day 1. Never had to make any adjustments. No creep at all. Breaks clean at about 25 oz. I also have a Rifle Basix on a different Rem 700 and the Shilen is unquestionably superior. Only reason I went with the Rifle Basix was to use up a Cabelas gift card. If I could do it again, I'd shell out the cash for another Shilen and use the gift card on something else.

Trigger is perfect, but be aware if you have a Remington 700 TAC ( 2009 and beyond) you must work on the bolt action release, it is too short for this Trigger.I took me one hour to maintain it for full function.You also can not use the safety !!

I have used other triggers, from handmade double stage to single stage, other types, manufactures, it is a little bit of trouble to get the safety just right, other than this, for the money this is one of the best things you can do to 700 triggers, very dependable, easy to care for , recommended for any 700 Remington that you need more control over trigger .

Great product for the price. Much better than factory. The 1.5lb is perfect for a hunting rifle and adjustment is easy. The shoe is slightly larger than factory (which is nice). The safety install was an easy drop in and pin's fit easily. Very straight forward. The factory setting for the trigger was 1.8lbs so it didn't need much adjusting to get it down to 1.5 lbs.
