Product Information

Lightfield's Impact Discarding Sabot (IDS) shotgun ammunition couples a soft lead slug with a plastic sabot that remains attached to the lead projectile until impact with the target. The sabot stabilizes the slug during flight, especially during the critical transformation from super- to subsonic speeds, making for improved accuracy. Designed specifically for rifled barrels.

These slugs hit hard! We ...

These slugs hit hard! We bought some for a benelli Nova with an 18" barrel and they will bite you quite a bit. If you are a novice on large recoil/bore firearms this is not something you just put on your shoulder and expect to walk away without some black and blue. On a side note, these will instill a flinch on a lot of shooters, they are as loud as a .50 BMG and throw fire about 3-4 feet. Fire these at an indoor range and everyone stops and stares. They are a bit pricey but for the most part, you wont want to shoot more than 5 rounds anyways

Wow! By far the hardest ...

Wow! By far the hardest kicking load I've shot out of anything. First let me point out that Midway's product information on these is flat out wrong. The box says that the muzzle velocity is 1,890 fps. Not far off of Midway's figure of 1,900, but the muzzle energy is way off. Midway's site says it's 3,728 ft/lbs, the box says 4,759 ft/lbs. I ran the maths, and the box is right. So if you bought these expecting a certain amount of kick, expect even more.I fired two of these today out of my Benelli SuperNova. I have an ElZetta white light and Burris Speed Bead attached to it, and while these slugs didn't damage the electronics, my shoulder and cheek are certainly worse for wear.I will keep these around for hog hunting someday. They're probably a overkill for deer, but according to the ballistic chart on the box they should be pretty flat shooting out to 150 yards. I didn't test them in a rifled barrel or with magnified optics, so I can't comment on the accuracy at that range.

Great slugs. I always say, go big or go home and cannot understand why anyone would hunt with a 2 3/4" or 3" slug for deer? Grow up its only one shot at the deer (with these babies at least). It will destroy a shoulder and still come out the other side of a mature white tail (trust me, through both shoulders). It kicks, but it kills.

This round recoils harder ...

This round recoils harder than my 50 DTC! What this slug does to a water jug at 30 yards is amazing. The terminal performance of this round on any soft target must be incredible. I might consider using this round only down to maybe hunting wild pig; anything smaller and there would not be anything left. This round is worth the recoil and the $3.70 per round! Even in my brothers smooth-bore Benelli tactical pump with rifle sights, it was accurate out to 75 yards. Will be ordering a lot more very soon. WORD OF CAUTION, considering the enormous power of this round, I would NOT recommend using this for home defense! Way too powerful! Would probably go through several layers of people as well as a solid framed wall. I would not even trust my level 3A soft armor against this stuff!

Without a doubt the most devastating slug I've ever shot. This slugs power is what all others should be judged by. The Lightfield is the only quality 3-1/2 inch slug on the market, I'm glad Midway finally sells it. I have 5 of them on the side of my Benelli Supernova for personal defense. Once you shoot this slug all others seem outright pathetic!!!

By far the best slug available. The "Technical Specifications" are for the non-plus slugs, the real numbers are 1890 fps and 4,800 fpe. That is astounding; nothing else even comes close. I shoot them from an 11-87 with extended rifle tube with great results, around 3" at 100 yards, and get more then 1,900 fps. I have since had a NEF Ultra Slug Hunter rechambered to 3.5" and find it to be the perfect combination with 2" or less groups.The energy is another story; phenominal is an understatment. The pure knock-down performance is something that you simply have to see for youself. I have taken 3 deer with the farthest shot at 109 yards and have yet to see one take a single step. I cannot say enough about 'em...just try one and you'll see what I'm talking about.

These things are nasty. ...

These things are nasty. Its scary firing these things from my mossberg 535 pump. I offered other people at the range the chance to shoot my gun with these slugs and nobody would do it. The kick is worse than anything I've shot before. But I use a blackhawk shotgun stock with a spring inside and it keeps your shoulder from bruising.
