I read all the reviews but really wanted to mount a scope on my carbine so I got one figuring I could make any mods necessary to make it work. I understand these units are or have been made in China & that many companies sell them with there own name on them. Apparently either the John Masen company or the manufacturer got the hint from all the bad reviews because the unit I got is great. I appears that the mounting plate & screw have been re-engineered to utilize a machined steel plate which fits perfectly into the rear site dove tail & an adequately long allen head cap screw to secure it. I have a large 6-24x42mm scope on this mount & have put a couple hundred rounds down range & it hasn't moved. The only negative is that it's not that long so the scope positioning is limited. I have had to add a thicker butt plate to allow for proper eye relief. This is not troublesome though & I would recommend this to anyone looking to mount a scope to their M1 carbine. Being able to put a nice scope on my already fun to shoot gun has made it really fun to shoot.

I agree with the other review on all accounts, yet I was able to fix mine to work the way it was intended. I welded a 10-32x1" set screw to the wedge base. Then I enlarged the hole for the screw on the mount so a Craftsman 3/8" 1/4 drive socket will go in it, this way you can use a 10-32 lock nut, tighten the nut and mark and trim the excess on the set screw.Took it to the range where after a small adjustment on the lock nut we had a rock solid scope mount, even after a 100 rounds of slow and rapid fire.

Every bad thing that has ...

Every bad thing that has already been said by other reviewers is completely true. I bought this knowing it was not a good design, and I modified it so that it would work, as other users have done. It is a good start, if you have the tools and capabilities to overcome the cheap metal and poor manufacturing.

I read all of the reviews and thought I might get lucky and get a good one. No such luck.The mounting screw was just slightly harder than soft butter and the mounting wedge was too small for my dovetail.The scope and mount would come off with as few as 3 shots.I fixed it with J-B Weld. So far so good.

Very expensive piece of trash.Could not even mount it. Everytime I tried, it fell off. Total junk. I gave it a 1star, because there wasn't a no star rating.

The allen screw and wedge ...

The allen screw and wedge are poorly made and there is not enough threading on the wedge for the screw to bite securely. This causes the mount to come loose after 1 or 2 shots or the screw strips the threading out of the wedge when you tighten it.

I knew that I could machine the parts needed to fit, and I did, but that is not the proablem. The fact is that it is only a single mounting point, and that is just not enough to be accurate.

It pays to read reviews before buying. I just received one that is so bad the screwdown bolt is seemingly unthreaded altogether. For what I paid I expected at the least a workable fit, but I am returning this product for a refund due to poor manufacturing.

Fitting Guide/Review.Review:I just mounted this on my carbine and it sits rock steady. I really think its a good scope mount, tho the allan screw and the adapter plate for the dovetail is poorly made, the rest is greatFitting guide:1: Fasten the carbine to a Screwclamp that has/or can be fittit with softjaws, rubber or somethink alike, To avoid damaging the stock.2: Punch the rear sight out using a hammerable drift or something alike.3: Find an other Allan screw that is proper made, With an lengh about 0.5mm(0.19in)-0.7mm(0.27in),(Saw it down to size if nessery).4: Place the adapter plate in the dovetail sight notch,(maybe needs to be tap alitte to get in to the dovetail).5: Then place the scope mount over the dovetail, and screw the new allan key in to the adapter plate.Thats the way i did it
