Hornady's V-Max Bullets feature a polymer tip which enhances accuracy and promotes devastating expansion. The tip raises the ballistic coefficient for faster velocity and helps to stabilize the bullet in flight. It also acts as a wedge, initiating bullet expansion. The copper jacket provides the necessary bearing surface for maximum stability out of the barrel, and the jacket is built to withstand the fast twist rates of the most advanced varmint rifles. This is not loaded ammunition.

Uh Oh... Got 'er done!

I used these bullets to work up a very mild reduced load for my young (13), lightly built daughter with the hope of getting her lots of practice time in front of deer season with her 270 Win. We run these bullets at about 2450 f/s to maximize the amount of recoil she can tolerate with energy and flat-shooting. When deer season came, we decided to continue running these bullets; theory being the reduced velocity they were running would not permit them to have the typical Hornady V-Max explosiveness, and a traditional bullet may have a tough time opening all the way. We found an average sized whitetail doe at 180 yards presenting a quartering-toward angle. My daughter placed the bullet on the point of the onside shoulder, dropping her where she was. When I opened the deer up, the onside shoulder was completely busted (just flopped around), the lungs had been bisected severing the rear half of each lobe from the front half, and the bullet left two distinct exit wounds just behind the offside shoulder indicating the bullet broke up somewhere along the way; no offside ribs were broken in spite of 2 exit wounds, the heart and liver were in excellent shape so the bullet didn't fragment too violently or rapidly. Busting up an onside shoulder from the leading point is a lot of work for any bullet, but to be able to do it and still get an exit from reduced load 110 grain bullets was impressive to me. I would not reccomend these bullets for deer at full 270 Win or 6.8 SPC velocity because of explosiveness, but I will continue to load them for my daughter for the remainder of deer season this year and thru next year (after that we'll be looking at increasing velocity & recoil and therefore bullet toughness). These bullets also make an impressive display out of shooting milk jugs filled with water (and food dye) to keep the kids fired up with reactive targets at unknown distances. This is a great bullet and will remain on my bench for a long time to come for varmints and predators after my daughter moves on to a different bullet. We tested accuracy with these bullets out to 600 yards (wife and kids shoot F-class with me) and found that out to 400 yards accuracy was excellent, but beyond that it quickly eroded. I can't imagine a better coyote bullet for the 270 Win.

Very poor accuracy in a proven accurate 270 WSM. Thought they might be too light after trying different powder, primers and seating depth. Ordered Sierra 90 gr. Varmint and was very pleased they would shoot sub MOA with my first try. Wow a little fine tuning and five shots in .375 in. Another Hornady product inferior to Sierra.

I have run several hundred through my 6.8 SPC and they feed perfectly and they are ACCURATE!!! You will not go wrong with these bullets.

Used this bullet for coyote hunting in my Tikka T3 .270 Winchester. VERY effective! Bullet goes in and stays in! Drops coyote's in their tracks! Also for such a light bullet for caliber it is pretty accurate too. If you want to turn your .270 into a varmint gun for the off season these bullets will be more than up to the job.

I just worked up a load ...

I just worked up a load in my 6.8SPC AR-15. I put three of these in the same hole at 50 yards and another one about 2mm beside those! I'll be stocking up on these to do further testing at the 100 and 200 yard markers.
