Product Information

Hornady Great Plains lead bullets were specially designed for hunting. Their three-diameter bearing surface makes them easy to load while ensuring a tight fit in the bore. They feature a small base diameter which makes them easy to start down the bore. Upon firing the skirt of the hollow base expands to engage the rifling and seal the bore.

Technical Information: Hornady Great Plains Muzzleloading Bullets

Pre-lubed with all natural lube.

Designed specifically for hunting.

Bullets have three bearing surfaces, each a different diameter. Base is smallest for ease of loading. Middle is larger and engages the rifling. Top is the largest diameter to fit the grooves of the rifling.

Base has a thin skirt that expands upon firing to seal the bore.

Accuracy wise, these are the very best hollow point bullets I have ever fired through my 50 cal T/C New Englander and T/C Black Mountain Magnum. Accuracy good enough for 100 yard whitetails. I believe this bullet to be fully equal to a CVA Powerbelt in every respect except maximum accurate velocity. T/C Maxi Hunters are accuracy limited in my guns to 50 yards. These bullets are right on the money at 100 yards. They combine the best characteristics of the Civil War Minnieball (which they actually a type of) and the traditional Great Plains Bullet.

These are an incredible bullet. With the load that I use, it is getting a 1.5" group at 100Yards. It is a great bullet and an exceptional value. You will not be disappointed.

I have used these 385 grain bullets in my Lyman Great Plains .50 caliber traditional side lock rifle from the very first season they were available from Hornady. That was 1989 according to my scrapbook. The bullet is awesome. I've taken deer with fine peep sights out to 100 yards measured by a surveyor's tape. Don't use magnum charges of powder. You don't need it and it will blow out the hollow base.

Absolutely the best bullet I have tried out of my Rem. 700ml with 1:28 twist. Loads easy, thanks to the prelube. 1" groups at 50 yards and 2 1/2" groups at 100 and hit like a mack truck!!!! I used to use powerbelt ammo but could not get the penetration or expansion I was looking for. I found it with these.

These shoot excellent in my investarm hawkens kit gun. They shoot groups of 1 inch at 50-100 yards with 80 grains of FFg blackpowder

What a great bullet, excellent ballistics. Shot rock chucks with it out to 100 yards with impressive results. There was no guessing if you hit your target it was remarkable. To sum up the results in one word.. vaporize. Not even my high speed varmint rifle was as fun to shoot. 100 0/0 even on near misses.

Shot these bullets in my Cabela's .50 Cal Hawken and got 1 inch groups at 75 yards, including four bulls-eyes in a row (4 out of 4 attempts on 2 inch Bullseye, open sights). Nothing else matches this in my Hawken. Can't wait to hunt with them.

I have used these bullets with great success in a T/C Firehawk. Accuracy is 2"@ 100 yds. Terminal performance is wonderful. Quite possibly the best black powder whitetail bullet I have ever used.
