The dart is designed to limit penetration so the shaft and head does not penetrate deeply into the target. Maybe the ball is included behind the head to add mass and stability too. I've never hunted with a blow gun but I agree with others that more penetration would seem like a good thing. Maybe it works on head shots on very small game. For soft targets, I prefer the bamboo darts.If your plastic shafts are bent (due to tight rubber bands and packaging), just bring a pot of water to a boil, shut of the flame, and then dump a few darts into the water and a time. The straighten out very quickly and will stay straight if cooled while straight.

I was disappointed with these darts. Every dart I received was warped and did not fly straight outside of ten feet. They have great potential to be an awesome dart, but they need some tweaking in my opinion.

I received for Christmas a pack of 50 of these darts in addition to the six that came with my 4-foot blowgun. The metal portion of the darts does not come sharp - the edges are flat and must be ground and then sharpened. I don't really understand what the plastic ball is for; it prevents the dart from penetrating a target any further than about an inch. The plastic has a lot of molding excess that needs to be trimmed prior to use. Once fixed up, these darts are somewhat sharp and fly straight, but I don't see a practical application for them. I may be mistaken, but I think that these darts may be an older model that's being replaced by the Razor Tip Broad Head.
