The Barnes Tipped TSX features a 100-percent copper body with rings cut into the shank. A polymer tip boosts the ballistic coefficient, improves long-range ballistics and provides fast expansion. The four razor sharp cutting petals double the bullet diameter making delivering "dead right there" performance.

These revolutionary bullets from Barnes are made of 100% copper and contain no lead. Barnes recommends initially seating bullets 0.050" off the lands. Best accuracy will be found from 0.030" to 0.070" depending on the rifle. This is not loaded ammunition.

I shot this bullet in my knight .52 cal. muzzleloader with a knight silver sabot and blackhorn 209 powder @100gr(by vol.) with 2" groups!

Great accuracy. Great performance. This is not for the 45-70 lever gun fans. But, in the falling blocks it is GREAT. Consult the Barnes loading manuals since the faster burning powders they suggest take up less case volume.

I encountered a small problem with these bullets. I purchased them to load for my H&R Handi-rifle in .45-70 I have been using the hollow point flat base Barnes X bullets with excellent results, but wanted to try these Spitzer Boat tails for better down range performance (better B.C than the flat nose hollow point). These bullets are designed for the Socom, and when I loaded them to the last crimp groove, the OAL was too long. The bullet hit the rifling in the chamber, and the cartridge would not fully enter the chamber. I had to end up seating the bullet too deep (in my opinion) before the shell would fully enter the chamber. Once I re-seated the bullets in further, I got 1.25 inch groups at 100 yards. I fired one of the bullets into gallon water jugs at 50 yards, and it completely penetrated all six jugs, but I was able to find the expanded bullet about 30 feet beyond the water jugs. It expanded into a perfect mushroom (A Barnes Standard), and retained 100% of its weight. This was a load of IMR 4198, chronographed at 1800 fps. Comparing it to the flat nose, flat base Barnes X hollow point (which only penetrated four water jugs, and stayed in the fifth), the accuracy was better. Unfortunately, I will have to stay with the hollow point flat base bullets which allow me to seat the bullet to the crimp groove, and don't have to be seated too deep to allow them to chamber. If you have a Socom, I would highly recommend this bullet! If you have an H&R .45-70, I would recommend the Barnes Hollow point.

Opened up to .75" when ...

Opened up to .75" when shot into a whitetail with subsonic velocity. The plastic tip penetrated about 2", the bullet about 16" (front shot). I think this bullet will work in any .45 rifle, tubular mags excluded, at any velocity/distance as long as the shot is placed correctly and the game is no larger than elk / Scandinavian moose.

I shoot this bullet over a charge of H 4198, seated to the center grove. from a Ruger # 1. it's accurate into the next county. I will post specifics after more testing. It's about the only choice for this kind of shooting.
