Exactly What a Leather Holster Should Be

It seems many of the people complaining about this holster have never broken one in before. It's the same concept as breaking in a new baseball mit. I got this for a Ruger Redhawk, which is the bigest .44 revolver out there, and while initially the hammer strap didn't reach to the snap, after some time and effort, and forcing the revolver (unloaded of course) into the holster as far as I could, I got it to snap. Working and handling the leather will loosen and stretch this thing out. That is how these are designed. Cutting and sewing material on the strap is a uneccessary waste of time and effort.

Excellent holster for a great price. I needed a holster for my Ruger Redhawk, .44 mag, 7.5" barrel. Its an older Redhawk with a Hogue Monogrip. It is different than the pictured gun; the grip being up against the back of the trigger guard. I thought I would not be able to fasten the retaining strap because it could not slip between the grip and the guard. That said, I was able to .... after a while. This holster is extremely stiff when you first get it. Several applications of saddle soap and lots of working the leather with my hands and not only can I snap the retaining strap over the trigger guard, but I can get it over the hammer which is what I prefer. Great holster for target range and for hunting.

This holster was purchased for a Ruger Redhawk 7.5" barrel .44 Mag. The snap that is shown going over the rear of the trigger guard is not long enough and has to be threaded between the trigger guard and rear of the trigger to snap. I'll try the elastic idea another reviewer had. Other than that it is a good, not great holster. For $34 you cannot beat it. I have used this holster for two years now when deer hunting and it has held up well.

This is a P. S. review to my first concerning aging my holster with Black Paste/Wax Shoe Polish. First do a test on the back or under the Snap Flap just in case you do not agree.Second, I carried my holster to my local shoe shop to do some adjustment to the strap across the hammer, it's a bit short. He recommended sewing a 1 inch piece of heavy duty elastic at the end of the strap from the back. Bingo it works well for me, I am not quick draw guy. Just want to hold this Big Boy in place at the range and in the woods. This a great holster and looks great.

If you have a Ruger Super Redhawk 44 Magnum, 7.5 and need a hip holster this is the one to buy. I searched...this is it. I worked the leather by twisting, bending, rolling and mashing for about 40 minutes. Then to age it make it look worned and old, I used black shoe paste polish (solid not liquid) worked in good, then brushed as you would a pair of shoes. It looks good, when I go to the range I won't lool like a beginner.

The holster is high quality, fit my 44 mag Super Blackhawk Hunter great. Would be a great holster with a shorter barrel handgun. The 7.5" barrel is downright awkward to draw. When I can save enough cash, I will be getting a shoulder rig. The closed muzzle is a great feature since you don't have to keep checking to make sure the barrel isn't plugged if you are a "pro active" hunter like myself (I don't like sitting and waiting).

Excellent workmanship . Fits very well. However the strap needs to go over the hammer and not the trigger guard. Other than that , it is a good quality product.

This is a great holster. I have one that was passed down to me with the super Blackhawk that calls it home. My father bought it in 1988. 22 years later the leather is scuffed but both snaps still work great. It's built to last.
