Product Information

Handguns that are used for concealed carry and tactical use must have a narrow profile thumb safety to keep them from being accidentally disengaged and snagging on clothing when drawn. Wilson Combat's Tactical Thumb Safeties are made just for that purpose. The extended lever is serrated to provide ample control under stress conditions without interference. Requires fitting by a qualified gunsmith.

Great improvement to my ...

Great improvement to my Springfield Mil-Spec 1911A-1. SS Color didn't exactly match, but it was veeeery close. Nobody could tell unless they looked for it really hard. Function is spotless though, and that's what counts.

I purchased the Wilson ...

I purchased the Wilson safety to replace the big, bulky factory ambi safety on my Commander. Being right handed, I saw no advantage to the ambi safety and like the contour of the single sided better.I received the safety from Midway and found the shaft was oversize and would not fit its mating hole in the pistol's frame. I called customer service at Wilson and was assured that this is normal. They advised that the shaft is made to be oversize and requires fitting to the frame.I was able to fit the shaft within about 15 minutes by using fine emery cloth. I then proceeded to fit the sear block, which took approx. one hour. Next, I proceeded with the required safety checks, and finally, test firing.Overall, I am very satisfied with this safety. The finish matches other components on the pistol. The part appears well made with no rough edges, and a nice contour. Switching between off/on positions is very positive, yet smooth. The part requires extensive fitting, however, I feel it was worth the time invested.

Product was square and pin size fit well. Requires extensive fitting/reshaping of the sear block. Once fit, looks and functions flawlessly with zero trigger/sear movement.

Mediocre product. I was ...

Mediocre product. I was hoping that Wilson had fixed the problems that previous reviewers mentioned, but I had a similar experience. The pivot post is at least .002" oversized, it wasn't square to the safety sideplate, and the overall finish, fit was lacking. I spent over 2 hours on this part to get an acceptable fit. On the plus side, the steel is hard, the part looks good when installed, and matched the frame profile of my Kimber. Next time, I'll buy the C&S or Ed Brown part.

I never thought I would ...

I never thought I would write a bad review on a Wilson product, but here it is. Originally ordered one and found out the pin was oversized and didn't fit in my Springfield frame. It was surprising because I have 2 of Wilson's wide paddle thumb safeties on 2 other Springfields and they also fit in this SA that bought this product for. I sent the item to Wilson Combat to see if they could send me another one (at that time, MidwayUSA was temporarily out of stock). Wilson Combat acknowledged that the pin was oversized, but instead of sending me a new one, they machined the pin to the correct diameter. I received the safety back, but now with deep scratches on the pad of the safety (likely from being mounted on a vise).I was unhappy with this resolution. Fortunately, MidwayUSA finally received their new shipment, and they allowed me to exchange this part (great customer service!). In addition to that, I ordered 2 more for my other 1911's, thinking that this first safety must just have escaped Wilson's QC.So I received 3 tactical thumb safeties in the mail. And guess what--2 of them again had oversized pins. The 3rd safety had the correct pin diameter but the pad that you fit to the sear was totally miscast and unusable.Sent the product back to Midway for a refund. Truly appreciate how Midway stands behind what they sell. As far as Wilson is concerned, I will still buy the other products that they make, but without the false expectation that the part will always be perfect. Will not but another tactical thumb safety from them.

Shaft was oversized and ...

Shaft was oversized and had to be milled down to fit hole in Rock Island Armory frame. I had to do extensive fitting even to fit Wilson A-2 sear and skeletonized hammer combo.
