The alignment bars I ...

The alignment bars I received were plastic or some synthetic material, not steel as stated on the Technical Specifications window. They are lathe turned and made from a hard material that worked fairly well. The scope rings didn't dent them. However, the tips are not precision pointed due to the material used and therefore lost accuracy. The lack of accuracy in the alignment showed easily when the rings were lapped. The forward ring wore away quickly at the aft right and forward left sides. I would recommend alignment tools turned from steel for improved accuracy.

I used these bars to ...

I used these bars to assure the alignment of my scope rings and bases. They are not plastic as indicated by another reviewer. They worked well enough for my hunting rifle, but the points are probably not made with enough precision for someone putting high end optics on a long range or benchrest rifle. They are a good value for assurances your scopes wont be damaged during installation.

The ones I received were plastic (some sort of polymer), definitely not metal like someone described. These function fine and show obvious problems with ring alignment. You should really get a lapping bar/compound as well. This is a good preliminary tool.

Very easy to use for ...

Very easy to use for proper scope ring alignment. I will use them when mounting all scopes in the future. I would have given a five star rating except they made of plastic and Midway did not say so in the item description and the user should be a bit more cautious to protect the points to keep them sharp. I would not use these to initially turn dovetail style rings into the base, as that may make marks in the plastic body. These are fine to move dovetail rings a little for those final tweaks to the alignment.

Rods are made of plastic, and one point arrived damaged. The points are a bit too large to allow precise alignment. While better than no tool at all, they are not as good as the steel 1" rods supplied with the Wheeler Engr.kit # 204061
