Degreases and browns in the same application. Solvent cuts through oil, grease, or film to give an even, streak-free brown. This easy to use treatment does not contain mercury and requires no special equipment. Goes on cold so you don't have to heat the barrel. One 2-1/2 oz bottle contains enough solvent to brown many complete rifles.

This stuff is great! It is easy to apply, and very easy to get a good/excellent finish. I had to let it rust for a few hours more than the instructions said, but I don't exactly live in a humid climate. I blued a Marlin 60 with it, and it turned out very well on the first try. Took only four coats (I think, but it may be five, or three) for the barrel, and a couple more for the magazine tube. I was going to get the Pilkington blue solution, but it was out of stock. I only used about one ounce for that .22

I spent four days with this product while trying to rust blue my mauser barrel and action. I followed the instructions just as they are written. It does give a deep blue but very inconsistent. I would not recommend this product to anyone who values their time as I have wasted many many many hours. I tried calling the Laurel Mountain and all I got was an answering machine. After the 12th application and boil I still have splotchy parts and the blue parts were starting to pit. I then spent a total of two hours cold bluing the same barrel and receiver and got excellent results. For me this product was a waste of money and time. I'm sticking to cold blues even if I have to do it every other year or so.

This stuff really works. The trouble is to get it to stop rusting. Once you get the finish you want, follow the instructions to the letter twice and then a couple of days later follow them again. After getting the finish I wanted, I assembled my rifle and put it aside. When I checked it several days later, rust was growing on it like crazy.

Used this product with great results. Use care on the first 2-4 applications and only wipe in one direction and don't go back over part/barrel or you will remove the previous application(s). I used big cotton balls that worked well. Wipe on "easy" and wait. Directions seemed accurate and times (3 hr applications)work well. I applied (9) coats to get the deep brown I wanted. I used 1/2 of the bottle for 9 applications. Used boiled linseed oil to finish off and even the brown shade out. Works well, just take your time.

Used this Barrel Brown and Degreaser on an swamped Getz Flintlock Barrel. From start to finish good instruction and EZ to use. It was my first time working with a Browning so I was pleased to see that it was a forgiving product to work with.

I tried this product on a blackpowder rifle barrel and was not able to get an even finish. I tried my best to follow the instructions to the letter but did not get good results. I cold blued it instead. It maybe ok on small parts or short barrels. Others seem to have done well with it just not me.

Used to produce a very nice deep blue-black rust-blue on a white metal muzzle-loading pistol barrel. Humidity and temperature are important to get a good result: I used an old Tupperware container some water on a wad of paper towel, some plastic food wrap over the top of the container and a reading lamp at about 8 inches. This home-grown solution worked very well. Be prepared to invest time and patience. You'll need 2-3 sessions of 3 hours or so, and 2 or more sessions of 8-12 hours - nearly all of this is passive while you wait for the chemical reaction to occur. Exercise caution in the early sessions as you can easily rub nearly all the finish off when carding. Comprehensive instructions come in a little folded up piece of paper (that you WILL lose before you do it again - hence 4 stars). With attention to detail, product delivers outstanding results.

I've tried several brands, and this is the best browning formula available, providing a deep even brown finish even if your parts aren't totally oil free. But be careful when carding the rust the first few times before color has started to build up, because you can rub the finish out! It also makes a good rust blue if you boil the parts (in rain or distilled water) between applications.
