The Possum Hollow Bore Guides are the easiest and safest way to preserve the accuracy of your bolt action rifle is to clean your rifle from the breech/chamber end using a Bore Guide. Possum Hollow Bore Guides protect the chamber and bore of your rifle by guiding the cleaning rod through the barrel. A special o-ring seal prevents solvent or oil from seeping into the action and trigger mechanism. For optimum performance, add an optional solvent port (sold separately). Solvent Ports fit into the end of the Bore Guide to ease solvent application and end messy spills.

The hole is bigger than ...

The hole is bigger than the 22 bore. It doesn't protect anything. Tossed it in the trash.

Fits over the bore of my ...

Fits over the bore of my 2008 18.5" standard barrel 10/22 perfectly. This will not allow you to clean from the chamber side. You need an Otis kit or must drill out the back and disassemble the rifle to clean a 10/22 from the breech. Either way a guide would not be necessary to clean a 10/22 from the breech. I purchased a Dewey 10/22 standard barrel guide first and it did not fit my 2008 edition so I was relieved when the Possum Hollow fit perfectly. I believe Ruger has widened the band or that the new 18.5" bbl is thicker than the older models, some of which were 20" standard / non bull barrels (10/22RR). If you have a new standard barrel 10/22, I recommend purchasing this version instead of the Dewey. Both should work for older model 10/22s.

The unit I received fit ...

The unit I received fit perfectly over the end of the barrel, however the bore opening in the end is slightly over 30 caliber! not even close to 22 caliber. This allows you to still jam a rod in and scrape the muzzle lands. In effect you still can damage the muzzle and now with the "tool" on the end you can't even see in to avoid doing so. I'd send it back to Midway but it would cost near as much as to send it back as it cost! My recommendation is to pass on buying this.
