Product Information

Lee 2-Cavity Bullet Molds are a great choice for reloaders looking for a quality mold at an affordable price. Lee machines their mold blocks from aluminum making them rust resistant. Aluminum molds heat up and cool down faster than iron or steel molds and good bullets can usually be produced only after a few casts. In addition, aluminum blocks are one-third the weight of iron or steel mold blocks offering the bullet caster less fatigue during extended casting sessions. To ensure the best possible bullets, mold block halves are CNC machined for unmatched roundness and size control. Weights given are Lee's weights with suggested alloy; actual weight may vary due to the alloy mixture used.

The mold I recently ...

The mold I recently bought casts W/W metal too small for Enfields or Mosin Nagants, .311" on the driving bands and .299" on the nose. Fortunately, sized down to .309", it should work in 7.5x55 Swiss loadings.

Hoh Boy!I got this mold ...

Hoh Boy!I got this mold to dual purpose both my .30 cals, and .303 British. I haven't tried to load .30cal yet, but, I did load 40 for my .303 British. My bore is pretty true to spec, not unusually large for the caliber. Loaded with gas check, as cast, I couldn't hit my butt with both hands if someone guided me! I am talking about 10-15ft groups! Fired a few rounds, missed by at least a county, fired a few jacketed, 2" groups at 100yds, fired some more, 15' groups. Ok, that was over. I am using this mold for my paper patching for the .303. Frankly, without a gas check and two wraps, it mikes out at .3135. I size to .308 for the paper patching. Now, we are talking a great casting!!!! I mean, with the Load data supplied with the Lee dies, the lowest charge for the weight, my first clover leaf in a long time!!! I am very happy with that combination, and instead of having a mold cut for patching, this mold does the trick. Full house loads with paper patching is not unreasonable. Shoots well.

I love this mold. Dropped ...

I love this mold. Dropped bullets just a hair under .314 with wheel weight alloy, perfectly round. I used a .314 sizer to install the gas checks for my Enfields. I also grabbed a .309 sizer to use this bullet in my '06. Couldn't ask for more.

As others have stated about Lee Molds, they are not as good for high volume casting as the cast iron molds nor do they release bullets as well even after being smoked. They are however about 1/3 of the price and adequate for my casual shooting. This mold threw bullets at .313 out of the hard ball equivalent lead alloy (6% antimony, 2% tin) and the bullets with gas check weighed 186 grains average. It shoots very well in my #4 Enfield when tumble lubed after lubing the grooves in an unsized configuration.

Very useful mold for ...

Very useful mold for surplus rifles. Mine drops .3135" bullets at 180grs. I run them through a .314" sizer for the Mosin and Enfield, or a .309" sizer for the K31. Very accurate with mild A2400 loads at 1800-1900fps. Still working up some hot loads, and expecting good results.

Reading some of these reviews . . . Well, never mind. I have and use Lee, Lyman, and RCBS molds, all with excellent results. SECRET INFORMATION: Lyman and RCBS molds must be "seasoned" before they cast good bullets. They are more sensitive to casting speed and melt temp. Lee's aluminum molds can cast at a much higher rate, as the bullet freezes faster. If you're tumble-lubing your bullets, it actually helps to have them a bit frosty - I cast at 850-875 degrees and drop a bullet about every 10 seconds. If you're not using a bottom-pour pot, you're going to have problems with aluminum molds, as you can't keep the mold or the melt hot enough. For long bullets, rest the mold on something like an inverted ingot mold - makes the bullet freeze point-first. Also, it's imperative that you leave as big a puddle on top of the sprue cutter as possible. Finally, for those who don't know much about bullet casting, you can change your as-cast size by changing your alloy. I use this bullet sized at .311 for the 303, 7.7 Jap, and 7.62X54R. I size it to .309 and use it in a whole raft of cartridges from 30 Rem. to 300 Win. Usual alloy: 9 wheelweights/1 linotype. I can push it to 2500 fps without significant leading, but at that velocity they do well to stay on the berm. Best accuracy is usually obtained around 1600 - 1900 fps, using a medium to slow powder. Absolutely deadly on critters from my 300 Savage.
