I ordered this sling to ...

I ordered this sling to use on my Model 1891 Argentine Mauser Engineer's Carbine. This is an attractive and well-made sling, I will give it that much. But just 2 stars due to lack of utility. This one-piece sling is too short to rig into a carry configuration. It's too tight on my shoulder, even let all the way out. Also, my other main beef is that there are no instructions included on how to rig the sling to the rifle or how to actually use it to assume a supported firing position. I had to hunt around on the internet looking for instructions. There seems to be precious little information out there, although I did find a blurry diagram on how to rig it. Still no info on how the thing is used. I was also a little disappointed to see that the keepers are tacked together with brass studs; I prefer that they be stitched together. All in all, if I had it to do again, I would pass on this sling. Maybe my 9-year-old daughter can use it, I will have to find another 1" leather sling for my Argentine.

The Whelen sling is nice! ...

The Whelen sling is nice! But you have to figure out how it goes together. The Hunter company will fax you a picture of what the final product will look like from side view. The adjustments are easy once you have it together. The leather is good quality and should last forever with care. Mine is on a Thompson Center Icon bolt action .308
