These handles are made ...

These handles are made with heavy gauge steel and are very sturdy. The length of the handles provide plenty of leaverage when closing the molds. The hardwood handles provide a cool and secure grip when casting, and after 5000 bullets in 4 different moulds, they are still tight, and have not moved on the steel frame. So far these handles have provided excellent service for me.

I have two sets. Both splintered after very little use. Lee's 6-cavity handles work fine with RCBS molds and cost less than half what the RCBS handles cost.

These work fine. Nothing about them stands out. Given the method of manufacture, they should cost no more than Lee handles, which are a great value. This is only irksome. The thing that really tee's me off is that RCBS changed the width of the slot in their molds so that any other brand handles you might already have won't fit their molds. This forces one to decide whether to modify the mold (no), modify the handles you have (maybe), buy these overpriced handles (maybe), or buy another brand (yes). This increases the overall cost of using RCBS molds enough that I will henceforth buy lathe bored molds, like Hoch and get a better mold every time, worth the higher cost.

I have used these extensively with RCBS, Lyman 1 and 2 Cavity, and Lachmiller molds. They are excellent, well made, sturdy and the wood handles stay on, which is the complaint I have with other makes I have tried. Too often, when you start tapping to free a recalcitrant bullet, the handles loosen on other makes. That has not been a problem with the RCBS handles.

If you want the best handles to use on a variety of manufacturers. dies then these are for you. They work on Lee, RCBS, and Lyman molds. If you are the type of person that buys the best, and buys it once, get these. Else you will be back anyway.

Was a little disappointed ...

Was a little disappointed with these handles. I have an RCBS handle that I purchased over 25 years ago that works great with either Lyman or RCBS moulds. I just got one of the three extras that I was going to buy and it appears that the tongs are a little thicker and will not accommodate a couple of the Lyman moulds that I have. I will grind them down, but am writing this so that others will be aware of exactly what the big difference is between Lyman and RCBS. I needed the extra handles so I wouldn't have to keep changing the handles for the calibers I mould for and it would have been nice to know that there had been a change in the past 25 years. I DO like the quality of the RCBS handles (my Lyman handle(s) are loose where the wood attaches) and that is why I chose RCBS. I have no problems with RCBS or Lyman. They are both still great products. The tong thickness difference and my disappointment is why I only gave a "good" rating.

The most common failing of mold handles is that heat from the casting process burns out the interior of the wooden portion of the handles until the wood no longer fits tightly on the metal tongs. This has not yet happened with my RCBS handles, but then I haven't used them enough to expect it to have happened. In addition to RCBS molds and handles, I also use Lyman and Saeco equipment, and all seem to be about on par with each other from a quality standpoint. Lee molds and handles are not on the same quality level, but they cost so much less than the other three that they probably represent a better value for the money.
