Redding 458 Socom Dies

I'm a long time reloader who usually uses another company's dies and has never had a problem. These 458 Socom dies are my first Redding product and I can say they work great...I love them. I would highly recommend them to anyone.

Sizing die is VERY hard ...

Sizing die is VERY hard to use on new starline brass had the bottom pull out on a couple new cases, then tear apart die and punch out cartridge, Every time you size you have to worry about a case jamming in the die or tearing off the bottom of the cartridge. YES I lube every case!

These are hands down THE dies for the SOCOM and are of the usual Redding quality. Tried the Hornady's and could not get the rounds chambered or ejected properly from my SBR barreled AR upper even in an overcam adjustment. They jammed in the chamber every time. Switched to the Reddings and all issues disappeared. The cases sized in the Hornadys would NOT fit the case gauge supplied by SBR without being very snug. The Redding sized cases fall in and out of the SBR gauge with no additional coaxing. I'd also recommend Imperial Sizing Die Wax for these. I've yet to stick a case with it.

I waited to buy a 458 ...

I waited to buy a 458 SOCOM until Redding started producing dies. These dies REQUIRE imperial sizing wax. Others lubes like RCBS an Dillon will get the cases stuck. I use a Lee Hand-press, and sizing this caliber is an intense workout. Redding dies are king due to the finish, steel quality, and the thumb-screw design that eliminates the need for a screwdriver during seating (like RCBS).

These dies are everything ...

These dies are everything I have come to expect from Redding the quality is excellent. The walls are very smooth and leave no scratches or marks on the case. I have had no problems feeding or ejecting the reloads. The only thing I have to say and has nothing to do with the dies is lube, lube and lube again I am as careful as anyone but still stuck a case and I know this can happen. I chamfer the case mouth a little to better accept the bullet without shaving or scoring the bullet and I find that it is easier to start the resizing of the case mouth as well. Great dies I like and my rock river likes em' and by the way I called Redding and admitted my error and they had a new spindle in the mail the next day can't get any better than that.

I stuck a case on the ...

I stuck a case on the first try and messed up the die. Redding sent some new parts quickly at no cost and I used a nice heavy coating of lube no more stuck cases. (Use plenty of imperial wax)I will buy more Redding products in the future. Customer service is great. I used some Lee dies also same thing use plenty of lube.

Finish of the dies is ...

Finish of the dies is excellent, as expected from Redding. Sizing takes considerable effort, as well as the correct amount of case lube, but this is apparently normal for this case design. The supplied seating plug is a bit short for 300 gr range of bullets, but a quick call to Redding had a longer seating plug on the way. Overall, I'm very satisfied with these dies.

I have used almost every manufacture's dies that have been made over the 50 years that I have been reloading.The Redding Dies to me are the best. I have yet to have any kind of problems with them. Also this company makes a shell holder set that comes in different thicknesses for certain calibers. That really helps with case sizing problems. I can highly recommend this product to any shooter.

The dies work perfectly. The case mouths are expanded just right and seater die seats to the correct depth. No stuck cases in the first 50 and I am very pleased with the results.
