Having received my first 10/22 a few months ago, the first thing that became highly annoying was the high-pitched metal on metal "clank" after every shot, which was very noticable with CB Long rounds and anything subsonic in general. I ordered this recoil buffer, dropped it right in (it's actually more work to get the steel pin out than dropping this thing in!), and cut the bolt noise down by a good 50% or so. The use of this buffer also seems to give a little extra eject time for certain subsonic rounds. Before installation, I could not shoot Eley Target rounds without having the bolt smash the casing while being ejected. After installing this buffer, there's about a 75% improvement in the semi-auto cycling on these rounds....sure, there's still a few that don't get out in time, but the number is much less than before. Highly recommended for the price!

For a one and one quarter inch long, 1/4 inch diameter piece of plastic, if is overpriced.
It works fine however, quiets the action, and probably saves wear and tear on the bolt and reciever.
I am going to buy 3 inch by 1/4 inch nylon bolts at the hardware store, cut the unthreaded part off and use them.
I hate to say bad things about a product, and this rating no way reflects on Midway which is a great company which I have bought from for many years.

I made 3 mods to my new ...

I made 3 mods to my new 10/22 Takedown. Swapping out the metal bolt stop for this recoil buffer was simple! No more CLACK! and the recoil is smoothed out too. I also got the Volquartsen Exact Edge extractor, which eliminated the rare FTE's and the Automatic Bolt release in stainless was a no-brainer. Probably less than 15 minutes to install all 3.

This part fit in at first and worked okay at reducing the metal noise. When I went to strip the action out and clean, after about 400 rounds, the pin did not slip in any more. Had to go back to the original pin. Disappointed in how fast it deformed.

Great little part, it takes away the metallic pinging sound. It reduces the noise but as quite as an air gun. I've put about 2,000 rounds down range with this installed and has no signs of wearing down at all. It is VERY easy to install.

Another great 10/22 upgrade!I don't know if it really reduces the felt recoil much, (C'mon, it's a .22) but it definitely eliminated the awful metal to metal sound you normally hear without it. It's more enjoyable to shoot when you don't have to grit your teeth every time the action cycles.
