Fit just fine on my 870 Express. They are not as "ribby" as the Mossberg factory forend (which has sharper "lands" then this item) but the texture on this is plenty rough to give a good solid grip. It measures 1.75" diameter at the middle rib (which is only 0.10" less then the Mossberg forend, but it feels significantly smaller). Ideal for those with smaller hands, but fits my med-lrg hands just fine.

This thing is built solid and looks great! I would have given it 5 stars, but it fit too tight and was rubbing against the barrel, (made chambering a round very difficult).Problem was solved in 5 min with a Dremel and sandpaper. Only had to take off a few millimeters at most. Now fits just fine.

I just purchased this Choate forend for my Remington 870 Express 20 gauge and it's awesome! Took all of 10 minutes to install. It's build solid. Not much "wiggle" while working the action. It matches nicely. You will need this forend if you plan on using any side saddle as the stock forend covers almost 4" of the receiver. NOTE: This forend is MADE for the 20 Gauge model / it is NOT made for the 12 Gauge model.

Forend was rubbing the barrel and hitting the receiver not allowing the gun to cycle properly. Took a lot of time to grind out the inside and to shorten it so it wouldnt hit the receiver. Not very happy.

This forearm fit my 870 Express 20 ga perfictly. This is a much needed item if you plan on using mesa tacticals 6 shot shell carrier. Forearm looks good and functions even better. No problems what so ever!!!!!!

Like others stating here, mine needed fitting with a Dremel in order to function properly. It would contact the chamber portion of the barrel when pumping the slide until I removed additional material at that end of the fore end. I did like the function after it was finally fit. One thing very nice with the Choate is that it came with the key to remove the old fore end.

This forend does not fit at all. I had to use the Dremel to make it fit.. This should not be necessary. Why can`t they just make it fit right away. It can`t be that difficult.

Overall, this is an excellent combat forend. Texture, diameter, and material offer a far superior grip to the Remington stock forend. Length is perfect. Does not overlap receiver at all, making it ideal for use with all sidesaddles, and always leaving ports unobstructed. I had to do a little bit of sanding to the ends of the barrel channel on top, as it drug a bit on the underside of the barrel when installed. Used 80 grit paper to remove about half a millimeter from each area. No big deal. Installation tool included is a nice touch.

Fit and finish was not as good as I expected. Does not match factory synthetic stock quality. Required minor fitting for the slide to work properly. I recommend a C cell battery as a sanding block and 120 grit sandpaper to fit the forend to the barrel. It comes with a spanner wrench that did not work with my 870. Consider getting access to a proper spanner wrench. Overall it does work well and is compatible with side saddles and does not block the ports.
