After the Taurus 85 was ...

After the Taurus 85 was disassembled, all internal parts where de-burred and polished. Shooters Choice synthetic oil was used in the lubrication process. The new 9 pound spring was installed. The original trigger spring was left in place. At the range, it performed well both in single and double action mode. The trigger was smooth and light. A definite reduction in trigger pull from the factory spring. After shooting approximately 200 rounds, I tried to shoot it double action during a day at the range. The double action mode dimpled the primer with reloads with hard primers by Winchester but did not fire the cartridge. Single action mode performed as desired. Upon inspection, it was found that the double action hammer motion is only about 75% of the single action hammer motion. This explains why the handgun fires in the single action mode but not in the double action. (The greater the compression of the hammer spring, the greater the stored energy.) I use this gun in both modes and want 100% reliability in the double action mode. The original spring has been reinstalled and the gun now has to be re-qualified for double action duty.

Solved the Problem

Purchased a Taurus 85 Ultra-Lightweight for my wife but she found the action too heavy to operate easily. Purchased these springs and used the hammer spring (which is lighter than the standard spring that comes with the Taurus 85) and it solved the problem. The trigger pull and hammer pull are now within my wife's capability. To use this particular spring one must have some mechanical ability, and it is good to have a spec diagram of the gun, but the replacement process is really quite simple.

On my Taurus 327 it made the single-action shoot awesome for target shooting. Hair-trigger, but I had to shorten the trigger spring. The hammer spring is too weak for DA. It only dimples the primers.

Simple to install and ...

Simple to install and makes a nice improvement in trigger pull. I didn't have to alter the springs in any way when installed in a 2" 605. The 9lb springs seem to keep things stout enough for pocket carry. Interestingly, my new Taurus had quite a bit of cosmoline type material inside - I'm glad I had the opportunity to clean it out and properly lube the internals.

I installed this kit into a Model 85 Ultra-Lite Titanium without any unforeseen issues. As others with newer models mentioned before, I had to trim 1.5 coils off of the trigger spring so it wouldn't bind. I tried only trimming off one coil at first but it needed 1.5 coils trimmed to not bind. I haven't experienced any weak primer strikes and the DA pull weight was drastically reduced. What more do you want for less than $8? Buy it.

This new (January 2011) Wolff spring kit works fine in my Taurus 85. One coil had to be cut from the 6.5 pound trigger spring. The hammer spring reliably ignites Winchester, Remington and Federal primers both in double and single action. I never use CCI primers so don't know about that. Anyhow, double action trigger pull in the 85 greatly improved. Doesn't compare to my old S&W K .38 but the Taurus is half the price of a new Smith.

As expected, this is another great product from Wolff and Midway! I have installed several of these spring kits in my personal and my customer's revolvers. I have had excellent results with these springs. As noted by other reviewers, the springs have to be cut with the new style Taurus revolvers in order to allow the trigger and hammer 100% movement. Wolff doesn't send instructions with the springs because it is assumed that the person installing the springs has access to a disassembly manual.

After a little research on a Taurus forum I installed the 6.5 Lb trigger return spring with 1.5 coils clipped (this fixes the binding issue) and a coil cut from the firing pin return spring (this fixes reliability issues). With these mods this kit makes a stiff trigger smooth and reliable even with hard CCI primers. A little research and extra work go a long way with this kit. I have a 605 with a concealed hammer (DA only) so this kit was a must.

Installed in a Taurus 941B4 in 22MAG with the hopes it would work even though the package does not say for this model of gun. I figured a 94 was a 94 and any 94 at that. I was wrong as these springs are not reliable for this pistol in 22MAG. The gun sets off only about seven out of ten rounds with these springs installed. The springs are not faulty, just not for this gun caliber combination.

Be careful with this one. Doesn't come with any installation instructions. The combination of the 9-lb. hammer spring and 6.5-lb. trigger spring made my Taurus 85 revolver unable to reliably set off .38 Special rounds when firing either double or single action. Restoring the original hammer spring seemed to fix that problem. Don't install the reduced-power hammer spring in a carry weapon.
