I have to say that, after reading a lot of reviews, I finally went with this Gerber Parang - and I am glad I did! I did have to sharpen it upon getting it as it would not shave the hair off of my arm (and I'm OCD about my tools being sharp, lol), but it feels very solid in my hand - not like one of those other cheap machetes you pick up from Wally world.Anyway, I was finally able to get out and use it the other day for about 2 hours and it held up great! I chopped everything I could get the blade on to - at least chopping through 2" limbs! Oh, and I read another review where the handle came apart after the first use. I have had no issues whatsoever and the handle feels extremely solid; I can't imagine it coming apart. This blade is made from a carbon steel, so make sure you oil it up after you use it or it will rust. But it does take and hold a nice edge and does not warp upon blunt trauma. My wife uses it to chop open young coconuts, lol. She did this cuz it was beginning to make the edge of our largest kitchen knife kind of wavy - with the Gerber its no problem! Lastly, I really like the design of the blade - unlike the kukri (although I have not used it personally). The kukri seems like it would push the brush back into your hand when you chop at it due to the recurve of the edge, where as this gerber pushes it away from your hand after it has been cut. It works very well.I would definitely recommend this to any who may be inquiring as to whether to get this or not. I will post updates if anything goes amiss with this parang. Hope this helps!

This is probably the best machete I have ever had the privilege of owning. It works well as a machete but has enough meat to it that it will serve as a hatchet in a pinch. It has a nice thick stiff blade that takes and holds an edge real well, and the balance and grip are as good as I've ever had.

It appears to be a good Machete. Heavy blade which is good when you need to call this tool into duty. Decent edge, handle feels good in your hand. Made in China. Sheath was broken right out of the box.

Received this as a gift, used it for pruning, clearing brush, limbs, and small maple saplings. Also, used it for gathering camp fire wood, used it to cut up pumpkins, and watermelons for stuff. It keeps a great edge and easily sharpened with a fine metal file, then a diamond hone. Would recommend this, works great on hard woods, pine, and subtropics plants. The handles shape lends it handy and can be used to split small fire wood. Only wish someone would bring back the Becker machaxe, until then this is the way to go.

I have ten machetes...this is the only one I use. Can cut a tree down with it. If not careful cut your leg in half. Serious tool...for serious business. Most comfortable machete as well. I'll buy nothing but from now on.
