Frankford Arsenal CleanCast Lead Fluxing Compound makes lead fluxing easy so casters will not have to use rosin, paraffin, tallow, bullet lube or other homemade concoctions anymore. CleanCast is non-smoking and odor-free and only a small amount is necessary to prepare a 20 lb lead pot for bullet production. CleanCast easily and quickly separates dross from valuable bullet alloy to help improve the consistency of the melted lead to eliminate variability during the casting process.

I found this to work quite well for the money. When I use cheap cast such as wheel weights, putting a minor amount of this stuff creates a black somewhat foamy residue on top, then dries hard to where you can pick it out in one to two scoops. I've never seen my nasty lead come out so pure until I used this. Didn't really smoke for me.

This definitely cleans as designed but it leaves a gummy film on the pot and casting utensils that attracts moisture. Then everything rusts, including my metal casting tool box.

Good flux but messy

I only use this stuff for cleaning up old dirty lead in my old iron pot. It makes too much corrosion for use in my bullet pot. When it's gone I won't get anymore. There are many things that work as well, although I will say this stuff makes very little smoke or odor.

This stuff seems to work better then saw dust to me. A word of caution thou, if you cast outdoors (like we should) and leave all your gear outside, take this in the house when you go. Once it gets moisture in it, it clumps hard and pretty much becomes useless.

Been using this stuff for a while, what ever it is, it does work good when you are wanting to flux your WW metal and when adding tin ect, to your melt, my only gripe about this stuff is , it tends to build up on the pot and does make the pot rust, along with it leaving a brown, crusty buildup which I have scraped out along with finding out its watersoulable, so I just took my lee pot and put hot water in it and washed out the buildup, then blew out pot and warmed it up to dry it back out, outside of this annoying twist, the stuff does work well for fluxing, so I will give it a 4, the build up and having to wash out the pot takes a point off, thats all, if anyone else has a better method for removing this build up please post,,,

This product does a good job of fluxing, and is virtually smokeless which makes it ideal if your casting indoors. However be forewarned..this product is hydroscopic (attracts water!). It coats your tools and pot with a grayish goop. Be VERY careful when using a ladle to mix/flux your pot that has the previous Marvaflux coating on it - it will cause the lead to violently explode out of your pot! The way to alleviate that problem, is to either heat your ladle over an open flame to burn off the water, or just dip the very tip of the ladle, until the sizzling stops, and lower a tinge more, again until the sizzling stops. Repeat until you are able to dip the ladle into the hotpot of lead, without sizzling. If you just dunk a coated ladle into a hot pot full of molten lead - it is a guaranteed ticket to lead exploding back at you!I plan on just using this stuff when I have to cast indoors, otherwise Gulf Wax works perfect for outdoors.

The flux works as promised however, reading these reviews, and I wish I had, the flux liquefies and leaves a congealed deposit of stirring spoons in the lead pot. The deposited flux draws moisture and rusts the tools, worse yet I immersed a pre-used stirring spoon in a new batch of lead and it was like pouring water into the molten lead. I have not figured how to fix the problem yet. It scared me pretty bad, as all he molten lead left the pot. I had on safety gloves and vest. Be safe.

Got this today and it works great. I am able to cast in my basement because this flux does not smoke and it removes impurities very well. I am in Iowa and its in the negatives outside right now so being able to cast indoors is great!!

After using at least 8 different kinds of flux, this product offers the best bang for the buck. This flux actually melts into a semi liquid paste and absorbs any contaminates. Flux can then be skimmed off or burned off with adding wax and igniting. Dont bother with any powdered flux that wont melt. I use this when processing lead wheel weights into casting alloy.
