Product Information

SUPERFORMANCE ammunition is loaded with proprietary propellants that increase the velocity ratings up to 200 feet per second compared to other popular brands. Because there is no increase in pressure, regardless of the caliber, there is no increase in felt recoil but there IS an increase in efficiency and high speed performance. From sub-zero arctic temperatures to almost unbearable desert heat, SUPERFORMANCE ammunition can withstand any hunting habitat.

Loaded with Hornady's InterLock Super Shock Tip (SST) bullet, this round combines proven Hornady performance with a higher ballistic coefficient than available with most hunting bullets. The sharp, pointed polymer tip creates a faster, flatter shooting bullet. With its one-piece core and jacket strengthened in critical areas, the SST delivers much more controlled expansion and superior weight retention than other tipped bullets. Featuring Hornady's trade mark InterLock ring system, this bullet's core and jacket remain locked solid during expansion, creating massive wound channels.

im shooting this ammo out of a savage 110 rifle. this stuff is absolutely devestating. i leaves an absolutely enormous hole in the animal. however, due to this im thinking about switching ammo, as i lose way too much meat with this no matter where i hit the animal. a hole big enough to put a grapfruit through is nice, but loss of meat is not. i guess it is just not for me, but it is great ammunition regardless.

My third posting related to Superformance ammo. I keep getting same results for different Superformance loads - Superformance is the best I have used. For 30-06 Superformance beats my reloads and 4 other factory loads in a Ruger rifle. Shoots sub moa from a bench at 100 yards. Shoots same group whether it's 80 degrees or 30 degrees. 175lbs whitetail dropped at 130 yards with lung/shoulder shot. Hornady is fast becoming the Henry Ford of ammo - the best product at the cheapest price.

Mixed results - two of my ...

Mixed results - two of my sons used this ammo in new .30-06's. In the Remington 700 it grouped very well and had no trouble of any kind, and he had a one-shot kill on an elk at 309 yards, for this gun I'd give the ammo 5 stars. In the Savage model 116 it grouped very well, but my son would occasionally have trouble extracting the spent casing (I should have listened to him and switched ammo earlier), then with less than two days before our elk hunt he had three casings that took two hands to pull the bolt back, on his last shot the case expansion was so bad that even with two hands I couldnt pull the bolt back. We switched ammo and had to start over. For the Savage I'd give the ammo 1 star. Conclusion - test the ammo in your particular gun, it groups well, the bullet performs very well, but the expansion problems scare me to the point that even on the Remington 700 we'll switch to Hornady Custom.

Just returned from an elk ...

Just returned from an elk hunt in northern New Mexico and have to say these rounds perform as advertised. Very accurate and DEADLY. Shot a 5x6 bull at a ranged distance of 328 yards with a 40 year old rifle with a 22 inch barrel. Took 3 rounds to drop him quickly, but when we opened him up, any one of the shots would have been fatal. Recovered one bullet and it retained 158 grains and expanded nicely. Love these things and will use nothing else for hunting.

Bought a Weatherby 30-06 ...

Bought a Weatherby 30-06 Vanguard in stainless. This ammo has been more consistent and tighter groups than other ammo I have tried. Still breaking in my barrel groups are about 1.2 inch with some work I believe I can get it down to .7 inch or better @ 100 yards. This ammo is great. (other ammo tried federal 180gn shot ok, Winchester 180gn XP3 shot very very poorly.) .) I definitely recommend this ammo!

Lives up to the claims. If you want to feel a 180 gn bullet rocket out of your rifle this is the ammo to load. I have only achieved the same velocities with hand loads before. Warning - Pressure is higher than any other factory load. Could be unsafe in older weaker rifles. In my rifle I'll group high and right compared to other factory loads but I've sighted in with hand loads and this groups well with my hand loads which tend to be on the hot side. Overall I love these rounds and plan to purchase more. I've shot almost nothing but hand loads the last few years but this is finally a factory load worthy of shooting.

Could only get one box of ...

Could only get one box of these locally and used them in my Winchester 70 rifle and saved one round from the box for deer hunt'n season. Only need one shot for one deer. This ammo get's better velocity and delivers greater knockdown power than most any ammo I've ever used!

Lives up to it's claims. The kick is not noticeably different from standard factory ammo, but the velocity was wicked. It did produce higher pressure in my rifle however. Not extreme pressure but if you have an older more delicate rifle I would not fire these in it.

I have a Ruger No. 1 ...

I have a Ruger No. 1 30.06 in which I have used 180 gr Light Magnum ammo with great success. Since the SUPERFORMANCE ammo is the replacement, I gave it a try with the 180SST. I found it to be of lighter recoil, but just as accurate and consistent in my No. 1 as the old Light Magnum. There was no significant difference in groups. But keep in mind that this is hunting ammo, and down range sub-MOA groups are not as important to me as consistent placement in the kill zone under field conditions. I am confident SUPERFORMANCE will deliver as well as the Light Magnum. My Ruger likes it and so do I.
