Product Information

These Redding Decapping Dies allow you to deprime and clean your cases prior to sizing. The Small Die will deprime 22 through 50 caliber cases with lengths up to 2-1/2", and the Large Die will deprime 284 to 50 caliber cases with lengths up to 3". The 17 to 20 Caliber Decapping Rod works with the Small Die only and will deprime all 17 and 20 caliber cases and accommodates the small .060" flash holes found on many BR and PPC cases.

Just got these to de-cap ...

Just got these to de-cap prior to case tumbling and sizing. I LOVE them and they are built like everything Redding makes, tough enough that your grand-kids, grand-kids will most likely still be getting service from it. I dont know what these other guys are having issues with on this one. It performed flawlessly on 8x57 Mauser, 7.62x54R Russian, and the odd 8x56RS Mannlicher-Hungarian. The finish is flawless and it is dead simple to use. Yes, you could spend less on a Lee, and wish that you had spent a tiny bit more on the Redding, or just get the Redding now and save the time, money, and frustration later.

I use these dies all the time and I really like them. I broke two of the rods trying to decap berdan primers. Whoops!!! That was my mistake, but I called Redding and they replaced them at no charge. Redding's customer service is the best.

Redding usually makes a great product but can't rate this product high. These decapping pins are not length adjustable and do have a tendency to bend/break. With that said, the decapping replacement rods are more expensive than an entire Lee decapping die. Most always lean towards Redding over Lee but not this time. Save your money and buy a Lee decapping die.

A poor product.1) Only Redding has the replacement rods, of which the decapping pin is an integral part.2) The decapping rods from Redding cost slightly more than $11.00 WITHOUT SHIPPING!3) Buy the cheap Lee, and when the pin breaks, just buy a new die.

Unfortunately, both of my dies are out of service right now, due to the pin pulling out of the rod. It just happened to the small 17-20 cal rod on Speer .357 Sig cases (which all seem to have small flash holes, at least until I correct them). I wish that Redding would redesign the product to make this a less likely occurrence -- perhaps add a head to the pin. Might be hard to fit all that in the 17-20 cal rod though. Redding suggested coating the top of the replacement pin with red Loctite before installing, as I recall. I also wish they'd make the rod just a little longer. It's not adjustable for length(there's a springy circlip at the top of the rod). Even with the dies screwed all the way down to touch the shellholder, sometimes primers don't quite eject completely, and I have to "help" them with another decapping die or a pair of pliers. This problem could hang you up pretty badly in a progressive machine, I'll only use these dies on a single stage press for that reason.

I am generally quite pleased with Redding products, but this one falls short. It works fine for normal decapping, but when removing military primers, it does not push them out far enough. You can not adjust the decapping rod lower to push the primers out farther, i.e. all the way out. In my mind, this is a fatal flaw in this product.
