This stuff works well on small parts but can be a pain with larger parts. The trick with this stuff is to completely submerge the parts while keeping it suspended in the solution. If your part is resting on anything the finish will be uneven. Small parts suspended with a wire have worked really well for me but when I try to do an 870 receiver it hasn't worked as well. I haven't found a way to do it with my setup without disturbing the deposit leaving a less than desirable finish.

I wish I could give zero stars. I cleaned the parts thoroughly, degreased, and boiled again. Everything was very clean dipped and then parked. The dip wiped right off. I tried again with the same results. This product is so acidic that no prep is needed it will burn everything so watch it around your bolt lugs or receiver lugs this stuff is volatile. Last time I parked I did not use Lauer park solution if this acid is needed to make Lauers park work than I suspect the gallon I bought. From now on I will stick to park and then paint!

The black dip did exactly ...

The black dip did exactly as advertised. The finish came out a dark black that looks really good. The only down fall was the instructions on the bottle are a little lacking in detail, but there are enough youtube videos out there that cover parkerizing to help you figure things out. Also it says you can put it in any Non stainless steel container, but if you do it starts to react with the metal almost instantly. I don't know if that effects the finish or not, but we put it into a plastic container just to be safe. I will definitely use it again!

When used in conjunction with Manganese Phosphate Parkerizing solution, the pre-dip produced a rich dark black finish. Without using the solution, the Manganese Phosphate Parkerizing results are a dark gray or charcoal finish. So if you are after a dark black finish, this solution works as advertised. The solution may also be diluted with water. Using a 4:1 dilution ratio, and increasing the total immersion time accordingly produced the same results. It is safe to use in a plastic container, but may react with any metal container. It will also react with any stainless steel utensils you use, such as a strainer or tongs, and cause them to turn black.
