Properly aligned rings create more surface contact with the scope tube to keep scopes in place during heavy recoil. Misaligned rings cause stress on the scope tube, which can dent the tube, distort the reticle, and cause adjustment problems. This is the 2 steel alignment bars only. Complete kit sold separately.

This looks to be an extremely reasonably priced product to perform an essential function when you're mounting a scope.I don't like the "turn-in" style rings, but especially if you use them, you NEED this product. Even if you use Weaver-style or other rings it's still important to make sure they're absolutely aligned before you bend a scope tube! This is so much better than trying to "eyeball" with a dowel, or using your scope to try to tell if a ring is cocked...

I machined a second set out of aluminum for a fraction of the cost. If you do not have a lathe available then these are a great tool but if you do have a lathe, it is a simple project that can be done in less then 10 minutes.

I use these in both 1 inch and 30mm along with a lapping bar, since I frequently use the Leupold twist in rings for their strength they make this tool essential! Even on Weaver or Picatinny type mounts it is always better to make sure they are straight. I have seen those machined wrong as well, (not very often but it happens) Anyway if you are using nothing more than a toy or otherwise junk scope by all means use a wooden dowel and "eyeball" it, BUT.. if you are using a decent scope and want to get the most out of it then I highly recommend using these! Even a slight misalignment can be seen when lapping the rings in, this means less contact on the scope as well as a twisting force against it. This over time will damage the tube of even the best scope and cost you a lot of money replacing it. Since I started using these and lapping bars, my scopes have lasted longer and my shooting has improved. This is because my scopes are being allowed to perform at their best. If you don't have lapping bars then buy the set, but if you already have you lapping kits then these are well worth the price. Thanks Midway, Very good product and price.

Great product. Used with lapping tool to true scope mounts. It works with all 3 type mounts I used it with. Cheaper than bending a $500 scope!
