Product Information

Improves the accuracy of cast and jacketed bullet reloads. Doesn't stretch cases like standard expander button style dies do. Works in a two step process, the first step expands the inside of the case neck to just under bullet diameter. The second step expands the case mouth to bullet diameter or slightly over so that the bullet can be started perfectly centered.

I have to give only one ...

I have to give only one star because it broke before I loaded 100 rounds. The Expander is comprised of 4 parts; the die body 7/8"x14 that fits the press, the lock nut that holds the expander rod, the expander rod, AND the expander button itself. I "assume" they made the expander rod and the tip in 2 parts to save money. I made sure the button was secure and started to make my loads. After about 75 cases had been expanded the button came loose and stuck into one of the cases. I removed it and upon trying to screw it back into the holder rod part, I noticed the threads were stripped out. It appears the inside of the rod is stripped. Not so much the button. Now the reason for one star. I contacted Lyman and explained my problem. They want me to ship the unit back to them along with a receipt of purchase, so they can "Examine" my claim. Shipping is going to cost me as much as a new die? If this was a RCBS part, they would have immediately shipped me a replacement, no questions asked? Also, why do they need a receipt if the part is lifetime guaranteed? I will avoid Lyman parts in the future.

I've used (M) dies on 45 ...

I've used (M) dies on 45 ACP, 45 Auto Rim, 38 Special and 357 Magnum cases for over 10 years. I appreciate particularly the resulting long life of my reloaded cases, and have had none that had to be discarded due to neck failures. I will order another (M) die to prepare for reloads of 380 ACP, with the expectation that these "new" cases will also have long and productive lives. The (M) die improves with age. Expanders become smoother and well-polished with use. Use of this fine tool is well worth the small additional effort in my reloading procedure.

Great! Fantastic! That ...

Great! Fantastic! That sums it up, but I need to say more. It is the best expander/bell die I have ever used. That includes Hornady, Lee and RCBS brands. Other expanders seem to bell too radical. They sometimes get just the top of the mouth and not go in very far. Sometimes to bell the case just barely enough to force the bullet in makes the bell so flared it has to be forced into the seating die. Plus it is hard to keep the bullet aligned straight. This sometimes causes the bullet to bulge a little on one side of the case when it is seated. (Even the Lee Factory Crimp Die won't fix this bulge.) But none of these problems exist when the Lyman "M" die is used! The M die gently and gradually flares the case over a longer length. The bullets go in easier and perfectly straight without stretching the heck out of the case. And they stay straight while being seated. Like I said before...GREAT!
