Product Information

The Golden Saber High Performance Jacket successfully combines four critical elements of handgun bullet performance: match-type accuracy, deep penetration, maximum expansion and virtually 100% weight retention. This ammunition also features primer and mouth waterproofing for long-term reliability, nickel-plated cases for reliable feeding, treated powders for low muzzle flash and primers that are triple-inspected during the manufacturing process. This ammunition is new production, non-corrosive, in boxer primed, reloadable brass cases.

A quality .357 round that fills a useful niche. It is accurate, uniform, and, while clearly packing more punch than a .38+P, it is not as hard-kicking or flashy as some other premium JHPs. Based on its characteristics, this would make fine carry ammunition in a smaller .357 like a Ruger SP101 or S&W 60, as well as a full-sized "house gun" like the Ruger GP100 I shoot it in. I also use the Golden Sabers in lieu of heavier and/or hotter rounds when I want to run some .357 through my treasured 6" Colt Python, which shoots its best groups with magnums in the cylinder.

I am a huge Remington ammo fan, but I was totally dissatisfied with Golden Saber ammo. When I took the ammo out of the box to load my revolver I immediately noticed that the bullets were not set at a uniform depth in the casings. Some bullets were seated between 1/16th and 1/8th inch less than the bullets seated the deepest. The variation was readily visible to the naked eye. Additionally, some of the rounds had a foreign substance, perhaps an adhesive or sealant, on the outside of the casings. I did not fire any of the ammo so I cannot definitively state that the rounds were not reliable or accurate; however, I believe the flaws mentioned would detract significantly from accuracy and reliability. This ammo looked like some poor quality reloads. I returned the ammo to Remington and that company refunded my cost without question, but who needs the hassle of repackaging and mailing off premium-priced ammo and waiting weeks for a refund check? I am disappointed that this ammunition made it through Remingtons quality control.

Excellent home defense load.

I use this round in several of my strategically deployed handguns and the one I carry around my property in Colorado. In my own personal splat tests, it performs outstanding on anything I've shot. I also chose this round as my personal preference for Remington Ammo. I've been shooting Remington for 50 years and never had anything but excellent performance, so why bother experimenting with all the new fancy sounding stuff. This works.

As others have mentioned, this is great ammo that fills the gap between .38+p and full-blown .357 bear killers. I keep it loaded in my house gun since I can shoot it without being blinded or bleeding from the ears. It might also be good for smaller .357 guns. I put about 12 rounds down range; they all hit the target and the rest of the ammo looks to be well made.

I've shot this load extensively in several 2-, 3-, and 4-inch barrels. It has a surprising amount of muzzle flash considering it is a "medium velocity" load. Felt recoil isn't bad at all in a service sized revolver; it would be a good choice for the new or infrequent shooter using a 4" barrel handgun. I'd say felt recoil is around 20-25% less than full power 125-grain loads. Accuracy in a variety of S&W's, one Ruger and one Colt has been about what I'd expect for 125-grain ammo- okay but nothing that will win any accuracy matches.

While not bad ammo, and certainly a capable defensive round, which is what this is for, it's nowhere near some of the ammo that Federal, Corbon and others are putting out today. Very mild report and even less kick. I certainly wouldn't even consider it for hunting anything but small game. In all honesty, I can't justify the price when other similar products work better and cost the same. One good thing is it's consistently reliable and the nickel cases are top notch.

I've fired a fair amount of this ammo in search of a controllable .357 load for a Smith 340PD carried for back up/concealed carry. In a gun this small, I would recommend it only for experienced shooters committed to training with their gun. Even then, it produces a lot of flash that could be a serious problem in low light. Didn't chrono but I'd estimate it's doing about 1100 out of this gun based on other stuff I've read about it. Went back to .38 +P for faster follow up shots and reliable ejection with the short ejector rod in this gun.

This is some great ammo. I use it in my S&W 686P with a 2 1/2" barrel. There is a pretty good muzzle flash but that's to be expected with a barrel this short. The recoil is very mild and easily handled in a small gun. If you don't like shooting full bore .357 mag but want something with more punch than .38 +P then this is the round you need to get. I would feel very safe with my revolver stuffed with this ammo for concealed carry or even for home protection.

My 4 inch Smith loves this ammo. I shot my best handgun group EVER with it. Five shots (single action, off-hand) at 15 yards. The group could be covered with a nickel!

This is the most accurate commercial hollow-point ammo through my Taurus 651 2" 5 shot revolver. Very manageable recoil with less muzzle flash than most other loads tested. This is my new carry load.
