So far, no problems of any kind - works great! If the coating ever fails, I'll wrap it in friction tape, dip it in liquid plastic (designed for tool handles), or spray it with pickup truck bed liner (from the auto parts store). Something that should be obvious, but is not stated: this tool is designed for use with firearms that have .223/5.56 (or similar) mag wells. It will not work with at least some dedicated 9mm lower receivers, because the increased thickness of the front wall of the 9mm mag well prevents the curved end of the tool from slipping inside.

It gets the job done...sorta. I used mine literally once. Removed the factory hand guards, installed a rail system, went to put the removal tool in my kit and noticed that the plastic sheathing around the metal had come off @ the point where the tool contacts the receiver. I'm pretty sure that if I used it again it would mar the lower receiver. Don't really want to mess up an expensive component with a 15 dollar tool. I can also see that sheathing wearing off @ the point where the tool contacts the delta ring and messing that part up pretty badly. Spend a couple more bucks and get a solid plastic/polymer one that won't scuff up your anodization. Well maintained hardware is functional, longer-lasting hardware. :)

Stoner handguard removal tool

It worked OK for the first couple of uses. Then the soft coating started peeling off of the magwell hook. Now w/o extra effort to hold the hook in the magwell, it slips out. The exposed metal will damage your lower if it slips completely out. Guess I'll add a piece of heat shrink tubing as a temp fix.

Plastic coating splits quickly

I got this in May of 2012 to replace a ProMag brand tool that snapped like a wishbone after a couple uses. The AR-Stoner tool worked fine at first. But, after about 6 uses the coating on the lug split as did the coating where it contacts the rings. The lug is too short and the width of the tool where it contacts the rings is too narrow. Both of those factors caused the plastic to split, making the tool completely unusable.

Thus far I have used this tool 2X and it works as advertised. With this price point, I have no complaints and would recommend this product to anyone sitting on the fence. It certain beats removing the grips without this handy device.

Had the same trouble with the coating coming off. Hard to keep the end in the mag well. I'll try a different design next time, not worth marring the rifle.

Great tool and and ...

Great tool and and excellent for the money. The rubber coating is thick and durable. The only thing I can think of is the other reviewers happened to get a defected tool. To test the durability I took my knife to the far end of the handle and even with repeated attempts could not remove any substantial amounts. Solid steel means this will last years, don't waste your money on a more expensive plastic tool that won't have the durability.

Beats trying to remove handuards with nothing but for the money could be better designed. Did mar the finish on the delta ring. Might want to put some tape where it makes contact.
