Walters Wads over powder wads are used primarily for loading blackpowder cartridges used in long-range shooting and cowboy action shooting. Walters' Wads were used by more shooters, by a margin of over 2-1 over the second most popular type of wad, at the 2001 Blackpowder Cartridge National Championships held at the NRA Whittington Center in Raton, New Mexico. Made from vegetable fiber gasket type material and pre-cut for most popular calibers. Tough, fire and water resistant, biodegradable, NRA acceptable for Blackpowder Cartridge Nationals, smooth cut sides, leave no barrel residue, absolutely consistent and ready to use. Bag of 1000.

I load .45 Colts with ...

I load .45 Colts with black powder and the 250 grain Big Lube Boolet. Depending on my mood I load anywhere from 28 grains, the old Cavalry load to all the way up to a full, tightly compressed 38 grains. The lighter charges get some grits above the charge, the top loads merely get a wad. I also shoot these loads in a '92 Winchester clone. I am not a good enough shot with the revolvers to prove the difference, wads vs. no wads. With the '92 and a Marble's Tang Peep Sight the five round group at a hundred yards is only two inches with the wads and nearly five and a half inches without. This with all the other precision BP loading techniques, weighed charges through a long drop tube, etc. Plus, with the wads I could shoot more before the powder fouling started to degrade accuracy, a big deal with black powder.

I shoot .45 Colts with ...

I shoot .45 Colts with black powder loads and have used these wads for years. They keep the bullet bases intact and help prevent leading from heat. They are also great for preventing powder contamination from the soft bullet lube I use. I recommend them.
