I bought this as an ...

I bought this as an all-around camp tool for Rendezvous. It splits kindling, pounds tent stakes into hard ground and sticks into the Hawk Block with authority. It is a bit heavy for regular throwing, though. I plan to have it in deer camp in the fall for the added chore of splitting the rib cages. One note, if yours has a loose head just put the end, head and handle attached, into a pail with just enough water to cover for 30 min. It'll be tight as you need it.

I bought this tool based ...

I bought this tool based on the great reviews here, but was somewhat disappointed when it arrived. The handle had several dings in it, the finish was hardly there, and there were two places where the wood was splintering (not conducive to use with bare hands). On top of that, the head wobbled on the handle, making the tool functionally useless. Based on these things, I would have given this the worst rating possible, but it seems this tool is the victim of the growing trend of "good design, poor implementation." The design of the tool is great and to its credit it has a good edge on it. It is rough sharpened, but that is perfectly acceptable for an axe. Because I didn't want to bother returning it, I took out the set screw in the head (3mm hex) and using a piece of wood and a 2lb sledge, I drove the head down an additional 3/16" then put the set screw back in. This made the head rock solid. These are probably made with new, unshrunk wood to save money. Next, I sanded the entire handle to get rid of the splintering sections and then stained it the way it should have been done to begin with. Since I was already rebuilding the tool, I went ahead and put a smooth edge on it, then called it good. Now that all of that has been done, I love this tool. I love the balance, the weight, the handle length, everything. As I said before, it's a great design. So if you're willing to make up for the inadequacy of the Chinese factory that makes it, you can end up with a great product.

Mine arrived in great condition: no dings or splinters and quite sharp. Blade stamped TAIWAN and the plastic bag has COLD STEEL -90RH and a bar code. Has hex setscrew. I have three of these which I use mainly for throwing more than anything else. After countless and I mean countless strikes against hardwood targets, these things are a beast. Only issue I've ever had was having to replace a handle now again from strikes. An amazing product for the money and a great stress let out.

Was amazed at the size and weight of this hawk. Its well made and it cuts. This is no cheap version probably too heavy for most, but I like things that work and it does. However sheath for it is cheap and not worth the money.

Bought for friend as a Christmas gift. I am disappointed because it says "made in Taiwan". It does not say Cold Steel anywhere on it. It says American Tomahawk Co. on a stick on label. Just not what I expected. I do not really want to give to friend as it appears to be a Cheapie.

I recieved this a year ago and am still using it almost constantly!!! im thrilled with the quality of matierials used.... mine has literally been to h!ll and back and still waiting for the next adventure!!! its a little heavy for regular throwing but its versatility and highly modifiable design more than make up for it... great for the avid outdoorsman, family campin, or just the weekend warriors out there. enjoy it and and use it as much as possible... thanx cold steel

Got three of these. One was a bit dinged up, but as I planned to refinish them, no big deal. I stripped the heads and handles. The heads were given a nice patina with an over night soak in white vinegar and lemon juice. The handles were stained and finished in BLO. Heck of a good deal for the money!

I've only had it a day so I cannot attest to the long term durability, but this is a great product. It worked well today on some test scraps and I'm looking forward to taking it camping and fishing this season. This will likely be my go-to gift for hard to buy for friends and family. The fit and finish are just what you'd expect from such a tool. I'm happy with it!

I agree with all the other reviews, it's a great product & i'll probably end up ordering another 1-2 in the future. Mine also arrived with a slight ding in the handle, my guess would be it came from other hawks in a large box during shipment. Not enough for me to return it, but i'll drop the review down to 4 stars.Overall, it's great & i've recommended it to several people!
