I purchased this barrel as a cheap alternative to the pro hunter muzzleloader barrel. Could not be happier looks, fits, and shoots as good as the pro hunter barrel. Bergara seems to have worked all the problems out of this barrel. I will buy other barrels from them. Buy one, you will not regret it.

This review is about the new Bergara barrel with the hand removable breach plug. The plug is easily removed by hand without any tools even after multiple loads have been fired. Inspection of the barrel when it first arrived was impressive. Fitting it on the Encore Pro Hunter was perfect. Others have commented on the older style needing a bit of filing to fit, but there was nothing to do on this new barrel but insert the pin and screw on the forend. Finally had a chance to go to the rifle range. My Encore is topped with a 3-9x42 Sightron Big Sky scope. Using Blackhorn 209 powder and Hornady SST 250 grain bullets, the barrel was roughly sighted in first at 40 yards. I then move the target out to 100 yards and shot 20 rounds through the barrel in an afternoon session while tweaking the scope. The last pre-measured loads used after the scope was sighted in were unbelievable! The first three shoots of my last group produced a 1/4-inch group. The group was a bit high from bulls-eye so I gave the scope a couple of clicks down and fired the last bullet placing it just below the previous three opening the group to a four shot 1/2-inch group. Very, very pleased. All the loads shot in the afternoon were taken without swabbing between shots as Blackhorn 209 advertises you dont have to swab between shots. The 20th load was easier to load than the 1st. This latest improvement from Bergara turned out better for me than I would have imagined. Hope this review helps.

I had a minor problem ...

I had a minor problem fitting the barrel to my encore receiver. The weld that joined the barrel to the frame lock was bigger than the ones on the T/C brand barrels, so I had to grind a little off of my frame on the inside to make it fit. I was a little disappointed that it did not come with sights, but I can buy some later.

I chose this barrel over the TC for my Pro Hunter because the reviews were excellent. I have tested several different bullets and the best combination I've found was the Powerbelt 295 gr AT with Triple 7 powder. My Bergara is scoped with a Nikon BDC 3x9x40. I consistently get 2" groups at 100 yards. Today I took a large doe at 125 yards from the top of a ridge on a power line. The shot broke 2 ribs 3" behind front leg, exactly where I intended. This barrel will yield great accuracy, highly recommended.

An excellent alternative to factory T/C barrels, maybe even more accurate! I get 1" or less groups using Blackhorn 209, Hornady 250gr SST, and Winchester primers. Many listings say this does not include sights but mine came with T/C style sights. However, does not come with a breech plug wrench (easily fixed with a call to Bergara USA or use a 12mm socket). Ramrod has a twist out 3" section that aids in easy loading/cleaning. No extractor but I've not found any issues without having one. I also did not experience any fitting issues. It was a simple drop-in fit.

This is the most accurate barrel I have ever seen on a muzzle loader. I am able to consistently shoot sub MOA groups with it out to 200 yards on my Encore.
