The Caldwell XLA Bipods provide a stable shooting support that conveniently attaches to almost any firearm with a sling swivel stud. The lightweight aluminum design adds minimal weight and deploys quickly, with legs that instantly spring out to the shooting position with the touch of a button.

The legs are notched for easy indexing to a specific height. There is a connection point for sling attachment and multi section legs that collapses forward allowing for convenient carry of the firearm. Soft rubber feet provide enhanced stability, while the padded bipod base protects the firearm's forend.

Note: Pivoting Models - In the real world of hunting, the chances of the ideal shot opportunity occurring while on a level ground are slim-to-none. A pivoting bipod will allow the shooter to compensate for ground that is unlevel by up to 20°. The lower portion of the bipod pivots independently from the upper stock mount, allowing the firearm to be quickly leveled on uneven ground. The tension knob can be adjusted to control the resistance of the pivoting motion.

Is this a Harris? Certainlynot. Is this a great deal for the "rimfire crowd" (me included)? Certainly it is - quite a deal. It will serve you well if you take a bit of care in assembly and attachment to your rifle.Yes, it requires a 'phillips screwdriver' to firmly attach; however, the bolt can be altered with a bit of effort if the 'phillips' is that much of an issue. Gun owners usually own tools; so, take your hacksaw and cut a slot the sixe of a quarter or a 1/2 steel washer. It will tighten the bolt as much as needed. You don't want too much torque of it anyway. Why risk stripping the threads? Be gentle - it just needs to be snug - not space station tight.Adjustments were quick, relatively simple as with the Harris, remained tight where needed and swiveled where designed to do so.Fit and finish are quite acceptable; the finish in particular is esy to maintain and if it ever needs cleaning up - a can of Krylon Satin Black spray paint will do the job after the customary sanding, wire brushing and de--greasing. Keep it looking and functioning as designed with a light lube now and then; not quarts - just a dab in the proper places.Eight different rifles - ranging from multiple .22's to my .308 and .30-06 have yet to kill of this fine and fairly priced 'pod'.I highly recommend this product! After all, if you are going on a $2,000 planned hunt --- you'll be able to tote along the best Harris money can buy. Until the big hunt -- this will do quite nicely and reliably.

I'm only giving this product a fair rating because of the qualitly of the construction. I was at the range two days ago and noticed that the bipod didn't seem to be attached to the rifle very well anymore. Well after closer inspection it became very obvious to me that the part that actualy touches the stock had bent under recoil and somewhat light use. I still think this bipod would be ok for the casual shooter but I for one will be saving my money for something more solid, like the harris (the caldwell is a direct knockoff).On a side note the piece can be bent back but I take my guns out into the rough and generaly treat them like a tool, not a safe queen.

Close enough for goverment work

I put this on a savage .243 just for shooting it off the bench at the range rather than taking a bag. Its not a Harris by anymeans, but for the money I wouldnt hesitate to recommend it.

I didn't experience some of the issues stated in other reviews. I mounted this on to my Remington 700 without any issues. It is a little heavier than some of the more pricy models. So if you are looking for a light weight addition this one isn't it. If you're looking from something that is the most stable platform around this isn't it. But if you are looking for something that's a good price and does the job this is it.

I wanted a swivel bipod with notched legs and I decided to give this one a shot to see if it was a good value. After several months and hundreds of rounds through the gun I have no complaints. It has done its job off of a bench and while shooting prone. I would have given it 5 stars but I have handled and shot with another manufacturers bipod that felt heavier duty. However, no complaints using it on a Remington 700 SPS .308. I wouldn't hesitate to buy it again.

This review is strictly for the installation. I haven't used at the range yet. I have a Remington 700 VTR, which has two swivel stud attachment points on the front. This bipod can only be installed on the rear one securely which defeats the purpose of having two attachment points.I was hoping to attach this bipod to the front swivel stud and the sling to the rear. When I tried to do this the back part of the bipod hits the rear swivel stud. It could be tightened down like this but it wouldn't be very secure.The bright side is that if you only have one swivel stud you can still attach a sling right to this bipod. (Which is what I ended up doing. Now I have a non-used swivel stud in front of the bipod.)

I hesitated on purchasing this because of some of the negative reviews and because it is made in China. As to some of the negative reviews, I believe that might be installation error. I have mine mounted on my long range 308. I have had no problems from recoil or otherwise. One thing I would recommend is to buy the handle for the pivot. Caldwell makes a good product. About to purchase a couple more.

The price was good for the value. However, the springs were on the weak side and the extensions were very loose (undersized) when extended. This sloppy fit & spring tension just didn't for a 308 rifle for repeatable shots at a target.
