These revolutionary bullets from Barnes are made of 100% copper and contain no lead. When the bullet expands, four razor-sharp cutting petals are created, allowing the bullet to penetrate farther through tough bone and tissue. These bullets usually retain 100% of their original weight, making them a superb choice for hunting. Barnes recommends initially seating bullets 0.050" off the lands. Best accuracy will be found from 0.030" to 0.070" depending on the rifle. This is not loaded ammunition.

Used the Barnes 130gr. Triple X in a Browning A-Bolt .270 for the first time this year.Great performance - may actually be "too much" for the white-tails here in Virginia.Took a good sized doe at 125 yards- bullet passed through chest -taking a 50Cent sized piece of opposite chest wall and rib cage with it.Have no idea of how far or where the bullet ended up but was shooting downhill so not much of a worry about travelling to parts unknown.Doe ran about 25 yards and dropped dead.Significant- massive- damage of lungs.My only concern is that of bullet travel after a chest shot.Would not hesitate to use on much larger North American game.

Was excited to try them on game when the accuracy was good so I used them on both Elk and Deer. I shot a 5x5 bull opening morning . The first shot was at 238 yards to the lungs with no results, the second to the top of his shoulders, he buckled and dropped but got right back up and walked over the ridge, the third struck him in the neck and finally put him down. Without time to switch bullets or loads I was forced to use them on my deer hunt as well. The mule deer buck I shot took one broadside at 345 yards through both lungs and ran away as if nothing had happened. When it stopped again to look back at 465 yards I put another in the top of his back to try and stop him. The buck ran and tumbled several times as it descended the entire mountain before finally stopping at the bottom of the hill only 65 yards from my location. A third shot was needed to dispatch the animal. The exit wound from the first had closed almost completely and the shot to the top of his back was only noticeable from a couple of drops of blood. Not what I'd say is good performance from any bullet, especially not one costing this much.

Excellent Accuracy and Performance

I have used this particular bullet for several years now out of a couple of 270 Winchester rifles. Both rifles shoot MOA with IMR 4350 powder and the performance on game has been outstanding. On several Texas hunting trips both Whitetails and hogs have dropped in their tracks at ranges of 100 to 200 yards. No tracking necessary and no bullets recovered.

Since I retired from the USN in '90 I have taken over 100 whitetails with the Barnes 130 and 140 Gr Bullets in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Texas and Penn. I have recovered ONE bullet and this was from a 200 + pound 8pt shot head on at 75 yards in Alabama. Terminal performance is nothing short of Outstanding, most dropped at the shot with none going further than 50 yards. I handload and/or shoot the Federal Premium factory loads, both give MOA in my Sako Carbine.

Having killed all kinds of African plains game with a .308 168 gr TSX, and cape buffalo with 500 grain TSX and solids, I took the .270 with 130 TSX to Newfoundland for moose. My only shot was 410 yards on a big bull. The TSX shredded his heart and almost went through the far side. He went less than 50 yards.

This .277 130 TSX has the best BC of Barnes 130 triple shock series. My wife shoots 1/2" groups in her Tikka, and she is new with this. With animals, I only have experience with the predecessor 'Barnes-X' in .277 130 grain. Five animals. Two warthogs both dropped in their tracks with 3/4 front shots into the heart yet without apparently touching the spine/neck. Quite impressive. Actually, one leaped in the air at the shot and collapsed in a pile. Two dorcas gazelle were taken at 300-350 and 350-400 yards, neither running over 50 yards, both shot on the top of the heart. Finally, a bushbuck, slowly walking away at 175 yards was shot through the stomach into the heart lung area. The animal fell forward, taking no more than two steps. All in all, most impressive terminal performance. Naturally, animal reactions are not fully predictable, nor repeatable. I've seen a verified heart shot (hartebeest, 300 yards, 270Win, 130NP) run a paced off 400 yards. That says nothing about that bullet, but is one of the things that happens in hunting. The animal ran off, dead, and just took a minute to figure it out.

2JAN09 using Barnes triple X 140 grain bullets (270 Weatherby mag) loaded down to approximately 3100 fps on 125 lb hog as well as a 100 lb deer: the range on each was approximately 50 yards. The bullet entered just behind the shoulder of each animal and exited just behind the opposite shoulder; entrance hole was about the size of a dime and the exit was about the size of a quarter: massive internal damage and a large blood trail for the 20 yards they both ran. Great results both times.

Barnes claims that you will achieve greater bullet speed due to reduced pressures-true. The bullet is extremely accurate. So far, I have shot a bobcat, two turkeys (in Texas you can use a rifle), and two feral hogs. Bobcat was about 40 yards away quartering away from me. Shot went in on backside of rib cage and came out of the opposing front shoulder. Expanded to about a fifty cent piece. Both turkeys shot at about forty yards across the top of the back. Very little damage and dropped like rocks. One hog shot behind the shoulder, complete pass through with about a fifty cent piece expansion. Other shot through the head running across the field and dropped like a stone with complete pass through. Moral of the story; they are accurate, faster, and expand even on smaller, lighter game. I highly recommend them.

I loaded this bullet in a Winchester XTR for a friend that was picking up this rifle for the first time in years. I tried Nosler Accubonds, Partitions and Hornady InterBond and could not get them to shoot. Tried this bullet as a last resort. With some adjustments to seating depth I got a 5 shot group at about 3/4". He used the rifle and load to harvest a nice mule deer. Due to unfamiliarity with a new range finder and the difference between "M" and "YD", the shot is estimated to have been just over 400 yards. Bullet penetrated fully and caused massive damage. This is an awesome bullet.

OK, time to update the Jan. 2005 review (above).Have taken 3 large does this -2006- season using the 130 gr XXX out of a Browning A-Bolt.Three shots, 3 quite dead in their tracks deer.All had complete pass through, all shot from 125 to 145 yards, all had significant trauma in the chest.None went over 10 yards after the shot.Accuracy is great, can put rounds (handloads using Relaoder 19) in a quarter sized circle all day long at 100 yards off of sandbag.Accurate and deadly - that's all that needs to be said.

This bullet shot very accurately out of my Remington 700. Average group was 3/4 inch @ 100 yards. The one deer shot with this bullet was 220 yards broadside. The bullet exited and left a "nickel" sized exit wound. The deer dropped in her tracks.
