I, like many others who bought this product, had to file down the steel lip due to interference with the bolt. Not a big task, but certainly not a necessary one. The fit was sloppy as well. Too much play. Incidentally, it worked fine in my older 10/22 but not my brand new one. I understand that it's actually variances in the manufacture of the 10/22 vs. the variances in the magazines. Some work flawlessly in one gun and have trouble in the next. The pricey aftermarket magazine alternative is fully adjustable to account for these variances. Perhaps I'll try that next or give the BX 25 a shot.

Took this magazine out the other day for the first time. Prior to shooting, I had loaded the magazine to let the spring stretch out a little. Noticed that the spring was a little sticky. Once we got to the range, we started having a lot of feed failures where the action would get caught- looked like the bullet wasn't going high enough to get chambered, and instead smashed the lead into the rim. This repeated for a while, until we finally figured out a reliable way to break in the magazine. First, we emptied it out, discarded any damaged bullets, and loaded about 5-8 bullets into the magazine. When working the bolt action, we held the rifle to the side, so gravity wouldn't be a factor when loading the first round. Gradually throughout the day we increased the loaded quantity of bullets into he magazine. By the time we left we had run only ~250 rounds through the magazine, but were experiencing less failures (only one failure). By this time the spring was much more smooth. I would have given this magazine a 3, however the huge contrast between the broken in spring and the factory fresh one were huge, so I can only assume the performance will be near spotless the next time I go to the range. Will eventually switch to Ruger BX-25, as their reputed reliability is enticing.

I just order one of these. I have several of them but this one would not let my bolt go forward. Upon inspection of the magazine the steel lip on this magazine was bent way out of shape. All the other steel lip butler creek magazines run fine, very good product just one bad apple.

Bought two of these mags about 6 years ago and probably have at least 5 thousand rounds through them together in between two different guns and I love them, you cant beat the steel lips

They only problem I had ...

They only problem I had with this magazine is that it gets dirty easy, and fails to feed (spring is too weak). If you clean them, they will work fine, but you can't take them apart. Just flush them with hot water and dish soap, shake it up, and push the plunger down a few times during the process. They will feed reliably, when clean, with custom/match grade chambers. Better than any other mag I have tried, have a BX-25 sitting here waiting for me to run some through it though. :)

I left it loaded for about a year before I got around to trying it because I got some speed loading gizmo I just had to try out but was too lazy to take the rounds out afterwards. When it came time to use it I shot all of the rounds without any problems. Because of this I assume the spring is of good quality and it was designed and built right. That's worth 5 stars in my book.

Great mag! feeds flawlessly unlike other mags with plastic lips, the only reason i give 4 stars is cause there is a little bit of play which has not effect performance just a minor fit and finish problem for ocd people

The product works ok, thus the fair rating. My issue is they are loose in the chamber and I have failures to feed. I have not tried the grinding or the oiling but I thought it would be a better fit in the 10/22 than it is. I am not sure if I would buy another one at this point just because of the current issues I am having.

This mag worked very well, and overall I am very pleased with its performance. I bought this mag after buying a new 10/22, and the first rounds that I put through my rifle were using this mag. At first, I had some problems getting the ammo to auto-load correctly, but after shooting ~150 rounds through the rifle, it shot flawlessly. It is possible that the rifle just needed to be broke in. In short, the mag works very well, and i have not had a problem with it in 500 rounds or so now. Good luck, I love this mag!
