Having read the instructions supplied with the safety, I ground the forward part of the cocking piece to allow the safety tab to go in front of the cocking piece as prescribed. HA! Not so fast! Better try the safety without any modification to the cocking piece first! Mine ended up with way too much slop, and replacing it with an unmodified cocking piece from a Turk Mauser made the whole thing work well. It is a good safety, just check fit before you do any modification to cocking piece.

Even though I like a true "Buehler" style safety I always seem to cheap out and use one of these. As others have said the friction piece will wear out and cause the safety to potentially rattle in the OFF position. But ultimately it does its job and I prefer a mechanical bolt safety to a trigger type. A word of caution based on some of the other reviews. From what I can tell some are avoiding creating a notch in the bolt sleeve as the directions specify. Instead they appear to be grinding the safety itself or something similar. The reason for the notch is to HOLD the safety into the bolt sleeve in the OFF position. The little nylon friction piece helps but it is not a mechanical stop. If they are doing what I think they are the trouble will manifest if the friction piece fails. Cycling the bolt with the safety off you may find your Dayton Traister safety laying on the floor someplace. Also note that it is worth trying to create a tight fit into that notch with the safety as this will reduce the rattle issue.

Many dislike the Mk2 ...

Many dislike the Mk2 safety. I guess I'm in the minority. The main complaint comes from the nylon friction piece, that loosens over time, causing the safety to flop. Throw the piece of nylon away, and replace it with a coil spring that fits the hole. Makes the safety much more secure and solid feeling. Works fine after that little modification.

No need to grind cocking ...

No need to grind cocking piece as I have installed hundreds of these over the years. You may however have to grind the cam on the safety to a sharper point on it to allow it to easily go behind the cocking piece and cam it towards the rear of the bolt shroud. Very seldom will you have to ever grind the cocking piece. But I will say this; I like the Timney product better. When the safety is applied the bolt handle is locked down some like this feature some don't. In any case the Timney quality is far superior to the Dayton but either one may require some alterations.

This safety is easy to install, and works perfectly. The small Teflon retainer should be compressed as much as possible to ensure a snug fit for years of service. Will purchase more of these.
