The Redding 2400 Match Precision Case Trimmer is designed with a push button chuck lock for faster loading and unloading of cases up to 3-1/4" in length, the 2400 trimmer is made from cast iron for years of use and features pre-drilled holes to store the accessories it comes with. This trimmer is unique from others because its doesn't require the use of different sized collets to hold cases square to the cutter to get accurate and repeatable trim lengths.

I think this thing is an absolute jewel. I'm not the brightest bulb in the world, so it took me a little while to appreciate how to work it efficiently. First, there are two ways to adjust the space occupied by the cartridge case. The crude way is to adjust a lock ring (by loosening a hex screw, adjusting the ring, and tightening the hex screw) on the crank handle. The second way is to adjust the micrometer screw on the pilot shaft. Beyond that, for shorter cases -- say .38 special and shorter -- you can add an extension to the cutter shaft by simply unscrewing the cutter itself and inserting the extension between the shaft and the cutter. When I got the thing, I attempted to lock cases in it the way I had with my old Lyman trimmer: by trying to hold the case head in the collet with my left hand, locking the shaft in place by holding a lock pin down in a groove in the shaft with my right hand, and turning the crank to tighten the collet with my third hand . . . needless to say, it was hard to get the case properly aligned. Then the bulb went off, and I realized all I had to do was fit the case on the pilot first, then slide the collet shaft to the case base. Then, I didn't have to use my third hand to tighten the collet, and the case was perfectly aligned! Duh! Once I got the hang of it, the actual process of trimming was quick and easy, and the results were, as far as I can tell, 1.5 thousandths of an inch with mixed brass.The question that some have raised relates to centering the cartridge case in its collet. If it is centered, things work well; if not, the trimmer sucks. *IF* you place the neck on the pilot, then move the collet to the case head it will fit just fine and you can adjust the amount of case trimmed to your preference using the micrometer. (You may have to jiggle the case a little to have it fit in the collet but you'll know when it's centered.)At least I can, with no problems whatsoever.

I bought this trimmer about 1.5 years ago to replace a Forster trimmer. The micrometer settings, the little holes to hold the pilots, etc., seemed like a good idea. Now, having run two or three thousand cases through it, I have other opinions.Pros: 1. The micrometer settings do translate into predictable lengths on the cases making adjustment easier. 2. The universal case holder and the holes for the pilots are handy.Cons: 1. The cutter my trimmer came with brand new was so dull it wouldn't cut without EXTREME pressure being applied. It was promptly replaced by Redding. Then, I used the trimmer to trim some nickel plated 308 Win. cases and the cutter dulled to the point of being unusable for .308 trimming after just a few cases. The cutter was replaced free by Redding but I trimmed many Nickel plated cases with my Forster trimmer without problems. Reddings cutter replacements are also pretty expensive as well. 2. At times while trimming the adjustment screw will slip so the case won't be cut to the right length. 3. My trimmer is now making a rough grinding sound and trimming is getting a bit hard when I use it. I have not abused it and from the sounds of it, it's going to break soon. At least Redding has a life time warranty. If it breaks, I'll have them fix it and buy a different one.

After purchasing this trimmer with high expectations, I was completely disappointed. Everything I own is redding and they are great. however, this trimmer is inconsistent to say the least. No matter how hard I tried I could not get each case to cut to a precise measurement. The brass was hard to lock in place and finally the collet holder broke on me after about 40 rounds. I returned for a credit and bought the LE Wilson micrometer case trimmer, it is a precision trimmer and very well though out.

I find that this trimmer works really well with some calibers and poorly with others. Have had excellent luck with .303 British and 6.5 Grendel, but have been disappointed with .308 win.

I love Redding products and hate to say it, but this trimmer is worthless. Inconsistent at best. When you cant get better than .0015 difference in case length, why bother trimming? I trimmed the same shell three times without moving the cutter and went from 1.792 to 1.790 to 1.788, thats a lot of movement in the collet, and I watched the videos. The collet setup is junk and needs to be a traditional holder. Then this thing would work great. Im sending mine back to Midway.

For those of you who get inconsistent results, you may want to watch the YouTube videos that demonstrate how to use the trimmer. Proper technique is essential. My results are repeatable, easily and quickly.

I bought this trimmer to replace my old warhorse Forster trimmer. I quickly realized I had made a mistake and ultimately returned it for refund. Poor tolerances in the handle lock mechanism led to a loss of positive lock on only the second reloading batch I used it on. The trimmer is also more difficult to manage so that you get the case seated securely and repeatability every time. Repeatability is really key to this part of the reloading process and the mic is a useless appendage without it. Repeatability can be achieved, but it takes effort, attention and is not quick compared to the Forster. This is the reason I sent mine back to Midway (thanks for a great return policy Midway). My Forster is back in the saddle today.

I bought one of these and carefully followed the instructions, but can't get it to perform consistently. The problem lies in the manner in which the case is held. I have a Forster case trimmer and am able to get very good results from it Redding should stick to making dies, (which they are very good at), and stop making case trimmers, (they are not good at this).

I'm going to highlight my first and short experience with this product. After unpacking the product, I went straight my reloading area in the garage. I secured the trimmer to a spare piece of angle iron and grabbed a box Black Hills Match brass(308), which had already been sized. I gave the instructions a thorough reading and off I went. I understood the trimmer was calibrated to 223. Knowing this, I started with NO EXPECTATION that the micrometer adjustment would properly adjust to the brass I was using. I installed the 30 caliber pilot and advanced the micrometer adjustment to the manuals instruction. After a few minutes, I had the trim length I desired on the first piece of brass. I proceeded to trim 20 pieces, measuring each afterward. Without any adjustment, the trimmer consistently trimmed within one thousandth of my desired trim length, having one piece that was over a thousandth but less than two thousandths.I am very pleased with the this product. The trimmer is solidly built and has a substantial heft to it. I'm not sure why there are negative opinions about this trimmer. I believe the reason for inconsistencies experienced by others are due to the way they are installing the brass in the universal collet. I have experienced no such issues.

I love this trimmer. I was surprised to see negative reviews but once I read them I can see their point of view. It does take technique I would definitely practice on spare brass first but once you figure it out its very easy and consistent. I put the case on the pilot first then bring the handle and shell holder to the case head and have found it to be very easy to use and results are very repeatable. Would recommend this product!!

Great trimmer. Micro adjustment works like it is intended to. I have had no problems with mine not getting the brass the same length. Easy to use. Go ahead and get the power adapter for the unit its well worth having. I have trimmed 1000s or brass with mine. from 257 Weatherby to 223. Sturdy base built to last. One thing when you push the button down to release the case holder make sure you are going slow do not hold heavy pressure while spinning fast to find the grove to lock it. It will put a little bur on the main shaft and you will have a gritty sound and feel like one guy above described he is having. If it happens pull it down and sand with fine grit sand paper and no more problems. To get the case in the same spot put the case on the pilot push the handle firm against the base of the case and lock it down. Then trim your case. If you do it this way you will not have case lengths that vary by much at all. .002 is the most I get for variations. Higher priced trimmer but functions really well.
