With Variable Power recoil springs, the space varies between coils with less space between coils at one end and more space between coils at the other end. They are beneficial with compensated handguns and when using light target loads where less recoil energy is available. Wolff Recoil springs fit over your handgun's guide rod and control how the slide functions. In general, heavy loads need heavy springs and lighter loads need lighter springs. There is no hard and fast rule as to how much "spring" a handgun needs. Too light of a spring and the handgun opens and closes early and hard, increasing the felt recoil and battering the frame. Too heavy of a spring, the slide is hard to open and may not cycle completely, jamming the firearm. Includes an extra power firing pin spring. Installation requires disassembly and reassembly of the slide.

Fits:
  • Colt 1911 length pistols and clones, including models from Para Ordnance, Kimber and Springfield Armory. These pistols all have 5" long slides.
    Notes:
  • Factory 1911 recoil springs are 16 pounds in 45 ACP, 14 pounds in 38 Super, 9mm Luger, 38 Special Midrange, Colt Ace 22 conversion kit, and 19 pounds in 40 S&W.
  • The Delta Elite 10mm uses a dual factory spring rated at 23 pounds. Single recoil springs require that the Delta Elite recoil spring guide be replaced with a standard 45 ACP recoil spring guide.
  • The coils in this spring are not spaced evenly.
  • Variable power springs are typically used on compensated pistols or when shooting lighter target ammunition.
  • Recoil springs fit over a pistol's guide rod and control how the pistol's slide functions.
