This call is easy to use. ...

This call is easy to use. I was making great dog sounds in about ten minutes, and I've never used an open reed call before. The basics; Greeting howl, challenge bark, and hurt pup, are easy. Have not field tested yet. Also makes good doe bleat and grunt call.

This is a good loud ...

This is a good loud howler call, but was unusually difficult to learn, get used to, and get consistant sounds with, for a Primos call. I still have to practice in the truck a few times on the way out, just to get the hang of it again for the day. Although I have spent a fair amount of time practicing with this call. There needs to be a more "user friendly" hand held Howler call. This call does work, just hard to use. Sticking with electronic howls, until I can find something better.

I didn't think it was ...

I didn't think it was hard to learn how to use this call. I have a Dan Thompson Red Desert howler too and between the two of them I thought the Red Desert howler was harder to get used to. Not that the Red Desert was hard to figure out, I just thought the Hot Dog was easier to get the hang of. The reed is about 1/8 inch wider on the Hot Dog and about 1/4 inch longer. Maybe that's why I thought it was easier. One thing I like about the Hot Dog is the mouth piece and barrel both have a groove and a ring for a lanyard cord. I've never had a problem with the mouth piece coming off the Hot Dog like I do the Red Desert. Once, I had to back track and search the snowbanks to find my Red Desert mouth piece. Although I think the plastic barrel Hot Dog works well, they make a hardwood barrel Hot Dog that I would get instead. When I put the Hot Dog mouth piece on the Red Desert wooden barrel I think it sounds better.
