Lee 2-Cavity Bullet Molds are a great choice for reloaders looking for a quality mold at an affordable price. Lee machines their mold blocks from aluminum making them rust resistant. Aluminum molds heat up and cool down faster than iron or steel molds and good bullets can usually be produced only after a few casts. In addition, aluminum blocks are one-third the weight of iron or steel mold blocks offering the bullet caster less fatigue during extended casting sessions. To ensure the best possible bullets, mold block halves are CNC machined for unmatched roundness and size control. Weights given are Lee's weights with suggested alloy; actual weight may vary due to the alloy mixture used.

The LEE 339-220 is one of ...

The LEE 339-220 is one of LEEs best kept secrets. The long relatively heavy bullets drop from the mold very well, it heats up quickly, perhaps too quickly. Therefore I cycle between (2) molds of different caliber, otherwise it will get too hot. I prefer not to hold the mold on a damp cloth. I have casted up a few hundred of these for my Father-In-Laws 338 Federal. They work much better than expected. Accuracy is as good or better than jacketed bullets. He was hesitant to put cast bullets thru his Sako M85, I convinced him these would make great pinker / practice rounds. Since the mold is only $18 and box of .338s are $35 and higher. He is very happy I convinced him; as we consistently get 1 groups at 70 yds. and around 2 to 2-1/2 at 170 yds. These are not pooch loads ( IMR 4064 & 4320) I did not shoot over a chronograph but would guess they are at least 2,200 fps. All lubed with Carnauba Red and sized to 0.3387. I clean the bore with a dry cotton ball over a Parker Hale style jag every 20 or 30 shots. The bore is always mirror shiny. If you do your part you can ding a 6 gong at 120 yds. all day long with these cast bullets.I loaded up some with a full case of Trail Boss these shot reasonably well, very pleasant to shoot. Felt like shooting a 28 ga. shotgun. These are probably still 1,400 fps so they are right at a 44 mag power level and should take almost anything in the USA given some reasonable range limitations. I own several molds LEE, Lyman, RCBS, and a few Brass customs. I suspect these would work in a 338 Win Mag as well, I shoot cast in 350 Rem Mags with good success.

I have cast a couple of ...

I have cast a couple of thousand bullets with this mold since I bought it. It is very easy to get perfect bullets. You really have to smoke the cavity, at first I used a bic and that didn't smoke it enough, a zippo and really toast it worked the best. It heats up quickly and the bullets come out frosty if it is not cooled during production. I like to keep the bullets just shy of frosty. A wet rag with alloy in the cavity you can get the nack of regulating the temperature of the mold pretty easy. The sprue plate must be lubed to prevent it from scoring the top of the mold and you have to be real careful not to get any lube in the cavity which can be a little tricky with a hot mold and it is a real pain if you get lube in the cavity. Size, heat treat to BHN of 27-30, seat gas check and lube the bullets works great. I wasn't sure of the 1 ogive radius and it looked a little off from the picture in the catalog and I don't know what the ballistic coefficient is but the cast bullets look great and are superbly accurate.
